Hello guys. I had 270mb of videos and photos of insane storm smashed North Lismore. Theres a video clip of 1minute of very nonstop thunder and lightning. Frequently about every half seconds. At start of the storm we were under nasty tornadic green and blue clouds (low clouds) where winds and rain started from.

During the storm at backend where sunlight comes through, winds and rain were the strongest. Some gusts up to 90km/hr!! Mircobursts sway trees by the side like going to do a cyclone! Rainfalls should be between 30-50mm.

Video and photo files should be uploaded on internet tomorrow. They are already formatted and uploaded on the pc.

Cheers Matt

Wednesday 3rd December 2008 Violent storms produce lightning galore

It was a very hot and humid day with nice north to northeast winds tending to seabreezes early in afternoon. First storms produced in southwest of Tenterfield about 2pm. Temperatures and humidity was high most of day maxed out 32/23 feels like 36. Thunderstorms became severe about 3pm and firing up through Grafton and Yamba areas dropped out 2cm hailstones and generally mild lightning storms.

After 4pm, thunderstorms in our southwest became more severe and producing lightning galore. Most strikes up twice a second with maximum of 6 strikes at once! So once time we went to river at Ramada Hotel with Dylan watched the storms to come through. I took the first photo of lightning next to Ramada. Once new towers and RFB’s forming closer to us now produce some freaky lightning bolts! At this period of time it was hardest to take photos of them.

Once the storms coming through us, had moderate to heavy rainfalls with good solid lightning show. Then new cell comes after with lightning galore as the beast of the day! This cell was insane and most severe of the day. I recall this was a supercell. It produced hail and damaging wind gusts in Lismore and Bangalow areas. We had a super excellent vantage point seeing lightning strikes on backend of this large dangerous thunderstorm.

We had over 7mm of rain with max wind gust of 70km/hr from northwest from the large thunderstorm in the end.

Love this amazing photo with the setting Sun highlighting the storm clouds.

:D Uhh ohh, i'm in the firing line for "cyclone Charlotte" (If it actually comes to be a cyclone, its a tropical low as of this moment), as of 4pm EST of the 10th, its so far only classed as less than a category one, though it's been said that it should become a cyclone tommorow/Sunday some time.

BoM has said centre winds are around 45km/h, which isn't all that powerful, but it will be interesting to see what it does over the next few days.

:D

You lucky bugger living in Cairns! I love it there... Although I imagine you're a bit wet today- for everyone who doesn't know, here are the 24hr rainfall totals for Cairns the past few days (24hr period upto 9am on date indicated);

Jan 10th- 70.2mm

Jan 11th- 49.2mm

Jan 12th- 278.0mm

Jan 12th (9am-11.59pm)- 127.4mm

Incredible rainfall totals really and no suprise even this well-prepared part of the world is having flooding problems. Incidentally the total rainfall this year so far in Cairns is 551.2mm!

World weather turned up side down lately. Monsoonal bursts giving us some squally rains and heavy bursts. But we are 28 degrees south! Temperatures and dewpoints are extremely high! Yesterday was 34/24! Now its 32/25! So extremely hottest and humid!

GFS gonna give us a cyclone for whatever from monsoon from end of this new week!
