Pressure dropped to 1014mB over the last few hours

Totally overcast, looks as though the sun is trying to break through but cannot quite manage it.

There is a bit more of a crsipness in the air compared to recently which has been quite muggy.

Very warm last night of 16c there was a touch more drizzle alot of cloud once again today but with a few sunnybreaks and it is just a few 19.9c now and the sun is out now.!!!!!!

I was hoping we may have seen a glimmer of sunshine today but here near Manchester Airport where I'm at my parents, it's pants pants pants. 21C, and thick cloud. Just wish it'd lift a little so I could shift this headache. Ho-hum.

Poor here, it's worse than yesterday. I mean it's not the worst day but I was expecting mid twenties earlier in the week and there has been barely any sunshine today or yesterday. I think it might the first time I'm sort of looking forward to summer ending as August has been absolutely grim here. The only slight positive is that the nights have been warm. I hope I never witness another summer month like this.

Wow it didn't get lower than 18C last night that is just incredible for so late in the summer, thats very impressive even in mid summer, i`m not in a big urban area either so its not like a big inner city around here, feels hot today with more sunshine than i've seen all week not clear blue skies though still abit cloudy.

Low of 18C as well here last night. I think a lot of people overlook the fact that the nights in late August are not that much cooler than early August- of course you get the odd night with clear skies when temperatures drop into single figures but this also happens in July. There were some very cool nights only days before the July record temperature was broken in 2006.

So much for the predicted higher temperatures, we're actually bang on average today for August with a maximum of 20.8C. Its currently 19.9C despite being pretty sunny for most of the day. The only thing exceptional is the minima, which at 17.6C was the warmest since the 30th July 2006. Its really humid though at 80%.

GFS was predicting widespread 25C for England today, when in reality only the London area has reached it.

It's been beautifully sunny and warm all day here in NE Essex (for once), very humid, with a heavy haze in the air, which looks beautiful in the golden light of late August. Temps earlier up to 24.5, but the breeze is keeping it pleasant. Sitting in the garden while i write this, the garden looks as if it is enjoying the sunshine, many butterflies, masses of flowers and the scent of lillies filling the air.

Just about a perfect late summer day - shame about the past 12 weeks really.

Well my wish yesterday for some sun today never came true, it has been tantalisingly close to showing its face especially around early afternoon, but I can't see it now shining through, the cloud has taken on a darkened slate grey hue. I'll be glad to see the back of this humid cloud fest, let the atlantic freshen and mix things up, this weather has outstayed its welcome..

A dry cloudy morning, but the sun started to come through towards early afternoon, and now we have warmth and sunshine! This is more like it for a "Spanish plume", as the amount of cloud cover recently has been remarkable- especially for East Anglia and the SE which normally get the lion's share of the sunshine in these setups with high pressure covering the south. I mean, this kind of setup tends to deliver sunshine wise for the SE even in winter, let alone summer when the sun is stronger and more able to burn off the cloud.

A fair amount of haze- again, quite normal for this kind of setup.
