Yesterday I viewed the NW forecast for today which suggested light rain/drizzle through the afternoon and evening, something which was in stark contrast to the BBC national & local forecasts which said it would be bright/sunny from around mid-morning.

The NW forecast has been spot on because it has been dull with showery drizzle/light rain since about 15.00, there's a gentle WNW breeze and at present the temperature is 11.4c and humidity 78%.

Best day of the week so far with no rain to speak of, however, it is on its way imminently he says!.. Pity that the sunshine and dryness wasn't accompanied by warmness, the most noticeable aspect of the weather being the cold westerly wind again, which really has taken the edge off the temperatures, making it feel like October rather than May.

Tonight could see a dusting of snow on highest tops in the lake district, the cold theme continues tomorrow and into the weeke with some quite cold uppers developing, those going into the higher fells don't be surprised to see some hefty snow showers, the lapse rate is normally a its greatest in May, i.e. the change in temperature as height is gained is at its greatest, maxima of 11 degrees at sea level usually corresponds in relatively dry air to freezing level at 900m as is being forecast tomorrow and saturday here in the lake district.
