Question from a thickie here.....

The last four days have been gloriously sunny here, clear blue skies, not a cloud in sight, barely a breeze. Mon -Weds saw temps in the mid to high 20's but today it's only 15. Why, when conditions are to all intents and purposes the same, is there such a difference in temps?

read my blog about it jethro-I hope that explains it, look on the UK Met Fax chart for today and see where the isobars are originating from before they run over the UK.

Quite a different air source. What we had was not a Tropical flow but an anticyclonic flow off northern Europe and Scandinavia, hence lowish dewpoints making the days rarely sultry and the nights cool rather than sticky.

What we have now is a near enough full on Polar Maritime airflow, Svalbard and Jan Meyen both with quite low -ve dewpoints for instance.

:cold: It is another glorious sunny day with almost unbroken sunshine, scattered fair weather Cumulus and patches of Cirrus/Altocumulus - these showing how things are changing. The main difference from the last week is the temperature being some 4c/5c lower than at this time on previous days with it 17.3c at present. Humidity is actually higher than yesterday at 48% despite how things are said to be 'cooler and fresher', although 48% is still fairly dry. There's a gentle NE breeze too.
