Very wet with persistent heavy rain. Was quite calm but now the wind is picking up from the east. A few brief gaps possible looking at the radar but some more (thundery?) downpours likely this evening. A risk of a bit of localised flooding Id have thought.

10.4mm of rain in the last 2 hours, just over 7mm in the last hour.

Temp: 6.2°C

Dew point: 5.2°C

Wind: 7mpgh (E) gusting 15mph

Pressure: 986.9mb

Max temp: 9.1°C at 12:18

Min temp: 4.9°C at 03:40

Rain today: 11.4mm and counting.

Forgot to add, 194.8mm for the month now, likely to break the 200mm mark! 12.2mm today now.

Really is quite heavy at times recently.

Temperature peaked at 5.4c, down to 4.9c now and sunny. smile.gif

It's not going to be frosty with all the moisture of the fog now is it?

If the temperature is below zero and its foggy then by definition it is freezing fog whether or not it is depositing rime. It is possible that at that temperature rime was being deposited on some surfaces whether it was observed or not.

There may be particularly on surfaces that do not retain much heat e.g. metal five bar gates. However supercooled water droplets (fog) can exist down to very low temperatures without freezing so rime is not guaranteed.

The trees will be all white over the 2nd best thing to snow freezing fog is in winter.

Unless it`s freezing fog at just below 0c the ice will be heavier and clearer.
