Heavy Snow Fri 18

There is a high risk of severe weather affecting parts of east and southeastern England during Friday. Heavy snow showers will give accumulations of 5-10cm on low ground and 15-20cm over hills. Some drifting snow is likely in the strong north to northeasterly wind. This could cause disruption to travel networks. Outdoor events may also be affected by the snow.

60% East of England

60% London & South East England

They mention "high risk" so they are very confident about this warning. That confidence may well grow during tomorrow.

Still bright sunshine in Tun Wells, though the temp is still below freezing.

Can't see north but Bexleyheath is only 20 odd miles north of here. Shame the heaviest stuff is still up over northern England, temps may rise before it gets down here. Though if there's nott oo much mixing ahead of the rain band then it may snow this evening.

Its snowing here again. After drizzle for the past half hour. It was also snowing at 8am.

Can anyone explain why it keeps changing from Snow to Rain/ Rain to snow?

Archie, I would imagine its because as it falls a little heavier it pushes temp/dew point a little lower, when it falls lightly the temp and dew rise to less favourable at this moment, although as we go through Thursday and Friday there will be less marginality about it.

Probably because of the PPN intensity & the fact your right on the border of snow & rain I guess your something like 0.5/1C temp 0/0.5 DP

Think there may be just a tad more to come fairly soon after though Nick!biggrin.gif

Nick I was thinking if the PPN holds together from what's further up north then the south east in particular might have a surpise here. It is moving quite slowly, so it might not reach here until alot later today when temps dropping again.

this just get's better and better; there is now a strong chance that many areas in line south and east from the wash will see an inch of snow coming their way. and the short time horizon beefs up the confidence. i have a hunch that it'll push further inland than expected, too. :)

hasn't the trend so far been a downgrade after the evening runs however? perhaps we should wait for that before nailing it on? :)

been snowing here for around 15 mins, and is dusting my frozen pond in addition to flecks on the frozen earth patches, but is starting to die away. temp steady at 1.7oC

Has been snowing, albeit lightly, here for about an hour now!

It's even settling a bit, mainly on non-concrete surfaces.

Dew point: -1.4 OC

Very light snow just started falling in Shoebury (the tropical SE corner of Essex)

Good news.

Nothing just down the road as yet...

Wind has really picked up in the last hour.

nothing here....yet :)

Mike Im down the other end in Barnehurst- its snowing here- well granular snow- awaiting the first 'proper' flakes-

Perhaps you cant see it- get your face closer to the window-

11:00 net weather radar shows PPN beefing up to the north of London- heavier bursts of PPN about 30 mins away-

Hi Blackie, hope your well. We meet again this snowy season.

I've now moved to George St right near East beach. Indoors at moment but can't see any snow here yet and we are only about half mile apart
