Some fairly heavy snow showers last night with hail aswell at times gave around 1-2cm generally on most surfaces with 3-4cm on some surfaces this morning.

The day was then a mixture with a very sunny start buty clouding over more from 10am with cloud very dark and menacing looking for much of the afternoon before then turning sunny again by 3pm, snow melted in the sunshine though areas which still have Saturday Nights covering plus last nights are still covered in 1-2cm and most places which stayed in the shade have patches of icy snow to, clear start to the evening though cloud has increased and it's now rather overcast.

Hard frost last night, the sun quickly got to work on it this morning. A bright morning clouding over at lunchtime. Maximum temp of 3 degrees.

Its now raining fairly lightly, expecting the fells to get some snow overnight.

There's no doubt about it Winter is ebbing away the early evening is just ever so lighter and with milder weather this week Spring is surely around the corner. Now we are over the darkest gloomiest months there is no holding back that slow march into Spring. Not even the mob with the burning torches in the model output (the knowledgeable posters aside that is but we know who they are) who have been after an easterly for a while can hold Spring back. They thinks its all over well it nearly is now particularly for S England maybe by August for Scotland.

The sensationalist posters will have to put away their simply stunning, OMG, very interesting, all to play for, it's in FI, not seen since the 1980's comments for another year.

Still another month before spring and the real change isn't until late March really. There is a change though albeit a small one - in the same way August feels different to June & July. But still not that different...

It's dropped below freezing again this evening with a frost here in the valley a bit surprisingly, despite most other stations around here being warmer with more of the breeze. down to -1.8C earlier, though back up to -0.3°C now.
