Been a few but not that many. The mass concrete driveways that have been popping up over the last few years haven't helped the population in the towns.

I remember seeing a few butterflys in January 2004 and the extremely sunny February 2008 .

Plenty around here but a lot of a few species; Small Heath, Meadow Brown and Speckled Wood are by far the most common species, followed by Red Admiral and Small Tortoiseshell.

Our white buddlea has been plagued by peacock butterflies — I've rarely seen so many. Not many cabbage whites this year.

Has been quite a good season for butterflies around these parts, since the Buddleia came in to flower I have spotted quite a list, many Peacocks, many Coma’s, which have been unusually plentiful, half a dozen or so Red Admirals, and Painted Ladies. Have seen around 4 or 5 Small Tortoiseshell, a few more than last year, but still nowhere near the numbers of a few yeas ago, when they were probably the most common butterfly around here.

Last Tuesday, I saw what I think was a Common Blue on the lawn, probably laying eggs on the clover.

Scores of cabbage whites this year, both large and small.

Below is a link to a good site for identifying butterflies you see.
