Rain At Adelaide

The forecast rain for Adelaide unfortunately arrived on schedule and very annoyingly interrupted my couple of hours of gloating this morning. You can see this clearly on the sat. image. The forecast for tomorrow isn't that bad but Tuesday looks very dodgy.

Interesting comment made by Beefy during the discussion after play was abandoned when the forthcoming weather was being discussed. Concerning Tuesday he said that the Australian weather forecasts were normally very good unlike at home where they still tended to hang out the seaweed. I really think it's unforegivable that he doesn't realise that seaweed was replaced by fir cones years ago.

Australia seems to be having bizarre early summer weather. Relatives in Queensland report it has barely stopped raining for weeks. Adelaide has been drought ridden in much of the 2000's decade. It would be ironic indeed if rain ruins our best chance in years of a comprehensive win in Australia.

Yes the Australian weather sites are excellent, and accurate, considering they have such a vast country to cover. All the sites I've seen suggest that Adelaide- with a Mediterranean climate- doesn't normally get more than about 25mm of rain in December, with several years having next to none- this run of rainy days must be quite unusual?

Just seen the sat pic and pressure charts and they show depressions skimming the south Australian coast- shouldn't they be down south of New Zealand at this time of year?

Their forecast for Adelaide today was pretty much spot on as by 2pm the deluge started. Fortunately England has sewn up the Test match by then.

Pretty much. Normally in the summer months the South Australian Bight is where you find Highs, with a secondary maximum (80% of the frequency) just west of the North Island (New Zealand). But you can certainly gets lows in there at any time of the year.

This season there has been a lot of blocking over New Zealand, and systems have been held up in Australian waters bringing some shoddy weather to the main centres there.
