04-23-2011: The Birth of a Cumulonimbus

A memorable date for a variety of reasons whether it be temperatures widely in the mid-high twenties celsius or thunderstorms. The former was certainly the case here but thunderstorms were somehwat absent. Nevertheless, they shot up quite quickly after 4pm further inland and in Wales.

This tower went up to the east and eventually gave showery rain and thunder to the Bath area. These were taken over a twenty minute period:

These next ones are looking to the northwest towards Wales where there were considerably heavier downpours and thunderstorms with notable falls of hail and wind gusts. For an idea, here's a commonly-posted video to see what these clouds produced:

Thakns for the comments guys! It was great to watch these thunderclouds sprout out of nothing then die as quickly as they had formed. I hope for another day like this soon. :)
