Oh dear a very poor day for the south lakes. I think we have seen the worse conditions in England and Wales today. Suppressed maxima of 12-13 degrees, low cloud and rain all day, nothing especially heavy but annoying all the same. As with yesterday it has felt like october and with a gusty wind to boot thoroughly miserable. This evening has seen some heavier precipitation.

The current synoptics in my view after a long fetch southwesterly the worse type for the Lake District. All the moisture from the Irish Sea rises over the lakeland fells and we are just left with dank wet misty murky dull conditions no matter what the time of year - they are the synoptics which ruin a british summer holiday in the lakes. They are a kick in the teeth as very often you don't need to travel too far to see dry and brighter conditions and the southeast often enjos lovely conditions.

I am moaning because I love May but the current synoptics are ruining it - this May is fast becoming a damp squib here in the Lake District - the synoptics of April came a month too early and to be honest were wasted on April - if we had them now well things just couldn't get better in my book.

Indeed its been consistantly cloudy here since the 5th which is ironic considering the first 4 days of the month were almost cloudless.

Slate grey skies again today with not even the usual windup of sunshine after 8pm or before 9am.
