Are you allowed 2 guesses? lol :) I'm going for a maximum gust of 94mph but dont ask me where abouts it'll be, not a clue. Somewhere in Scotland lmao.

Glen Ogle 97mph

Does Glen Ogle count as a high altitude though? It is 564 metres above sea-level

I declined from choosing Capel Curig for the same reason though it is a marginal 216 metres - though in absolute all honesty I would've said 80-85 mph for this location and it recorded 82mph.

Fairly close to the sea, it is especially prone to gales that rise and funnel through the Snowdonian valleys, particularly from the south-west..

Wattisham - 51mph

Watched Anglia weather earlier and a league table of highest gusts had wattiham at 51MPH! LOL, what a guess....

OK, the official highest gust yesterday was at Capel Curig at 82 mph!

I think we were all a little too Northerly, but some came close with the speed of the gust.

Ever so slightly off-topic, but the first bit in this comparison between Brits and Americans seems relevant today: http://3bedroombungalow.blogspot.com/2011/09/difference-between-brits-and-americans.html

Yep discounting the moutains in Scotland i.e. anything above 1000metres Cairngorms 98mph, the highest official recorded gust should be Glen Ogle at 86mph as per Meto and Weather Online.

So will my guess of Glen Ogle 91mph be the winner? good.gif

The Glen Ogle gust is the highest I've seen so far but will wait for confirmation from the Met Office (they'll probably post a more definitive summary of the storm sometime in the next few days).

Apologies for the confusion about high level sites, I should have made the boundaries more specific. I wanted to avoid people going for stations that were clearly on the tops of mountains, like Cairngorm and Glen Coe or Snowdon etc. I didn't realise Glen Ogle was so high up (564m), but it is an official Met Office station. Capel Curig is definitely low level.

In the interests of fairness I therefore propose two winners, one for guessing the location (likely to be Glen Ogle), and the other for guessing the wind speed value closest to the actual gust :)

and an overall winner for a combination of the two!!! I'm being biased here as got location right and only 5mph out on the gust!! lol

The height of the storm was felt late afternoon and early evening, with a gust of 72mph recorded in Glasgow and an 85mph gust in Glen Ogle in Stirlingshire.

Still not confirmed, has anybody got yesterdays MetO stats please?

Edit, nope you are right!!!

Tiree - 85 mph

100 miles too far West but almost spot on with the latitude and only 1mph on the max gust! clapping.gif
