Was 0.5c in Barnstaple with a 5mph easterly wind at 4.00am colder than expected but the clouded over and was 2.2c at 5am with a 1mph easterly wind.

This mild autumn really does manipulate the perception of when it is and isn't cold.

Rising slowly at -3.2c after a low of -3.7c here in Picktree. No mist or fog, clear skies all the way so the temperature should rocket up before the blanket of north sea low cloud rolls in towards the afternoon.

Wind has swung easterly. Can tell that by the thick sheet of grey out there this morning plus hearing the city Council House bell chiming every 15 mins... 8.2c and I doubt it'll change much under these conditions.

yep much trhe same here botty-overcast, and not looking like I'll see much sunshine today or possibly this week, I do 'love' the North Sea-I don't think! Min before this cloud arrived of 2.9C, its on 5.9C now

Hmm... right in the middle of the hp cell with a slight nw breeze at -1c. Still very cold but rising rapidly- lovely feeling. Should turn cloudier as the high moves ne and we get a ne/ene flow bringing a blanket of low cloud and murk- but with extremely high uppers so probably won't feel as raw as usual with an easterly.

Overcast with fog and continuous light drizzle. Most of the night was clear with a northerly breeze but the cloud spread in from the North Sea between 0500 and 0700.

A cold night leading to a stunning crisp Autumn morning. Minimum temp 0.1c, currently 1.3c.

Low of -3.7c at 0711, still pristine clear skies and no north sea cloud (yet!), temperature at Durham is 1.9c at 1055, and under beautiful deep blue skies, with frost lingering in the shadows. Rising rapidly, should reach at least 8-9c before the cloud rolls in. Feels like a gorgeous winters day

[Thundery wintry showers]

Cleadon is evidently just far north enough to feel the effects of the high pressure and avoid the effects of the easterly winds. The temperature got to a surprisingly low -1.3C last night (for comparison purposes, the Novembers of 1997, 2006 and 2009 didn't manage a single air frost here). Currently clear blue skies, a bit of haze near the horizon, and 2.5C and rising.

Edit: looks like I need to make the most of it, as the model outputs suggest that the cloud will soon spill in from the south-east, and there is already some patchy Sc appearing to the south and east.

No joking about the cloud cover today, horrendous! All the lights on in the office for the first time in ages. <_<

After the "warning sign" patches of stratocumulus, a large sheet of stratocumulus has now extended up from the south, with a temperature of 7.9C. Interesting to see the transition, but I fear that the weather won't be particularly interesting over the next few days.
