lokking forward to my rain fix tonight....as for the excitement last night(me included me lol)

no way is the PPN from the south going to reach us looks like birmingham will be the northen edge

and thats pushing it...

GFS stills wants to push snow into southern parts of the region overnight

down to now casting now me thinks....and radar watching

C.S

Well I'm up for it of you are. Can't beat a bit of lampost watching with a brew or a tipple

yes but when I say this, I have to acknowledge that showers coming in from the Irish sea may be part of the same system - will we get the main rainband, probably not, but we will most likely get showers spinning off the system.

I think at the moment it will be pushing it to the extreme for any snow, hail possibly. but not sure about the rain really

Temps, upper air are just not right for snow for the southern part of the region, ie where we are. The main thing to watch would like be for hail and then frost later, proceeding any rain that might occur.

So far the wind has died down somewhat to an hour ago, we have had some light drizzle that fizzed out quickly.

That being said the temperature as dropped to 5.7C, and dp is now down to 3.6C.

So whats on the agenda tonIght? Are we going to see snow come up from the south or rain. Maybe hail though as we have had it already today.

Well if the 12z gfs and nae are to be believed then we wont see a flake in the NW let alone lying snow, pretty much as expected really.

Looking at the models in the longer term its snowless out until after christmas and posibly beyond.

Humbug

I would agree, however by the time the showers clear later on, there may be too much cloud for frost to form, also the winds are predicted to turn westerly, if this is the case then frost will be more difficult to achieve.

Actually the best bet for frost would be before midnight.

Also Saturday night through Sunday seems like the best bet for frost for the region as a whole (except coastal areas)

Probably rain and hail for most unfortunately but some may get lucky further south of the region.

You can see how that rainband will struggle to reach the Northwest!

Some of the GFS ensembles push the precipitation as far north as Greater Manchester, I'd say 40% go for this scenario. The other 60% go with the NAE. So there is room for a 20-30 mile northward movement of the precipitation which would spread it to here.

I'd say as one of the most southerly places in the region, Crewe has a chance of seeing something, but whether that is rain or snow I'm not sure.

NMM looks more realistic for my money, the NMM takes into account the infiltration of higher dewpoints tied in with a westerly influence into dawn.

3 degrees here at the moment, showers falling mostly as hail with rain and snow mixed though some fall entirely as snow. Seems quite zonal at the moment as it is alternating between snow and rain pretty often.

Altitude somewhere between 720 and 820 feet.

Real heavy hail showers here, temp is rather high for snow atm (4.4c) but I'm happpy with hail, as long as it doesn't rain! :)

Showers breaking out over Cumbria right now, I was hoping for some clear periods to allow the temp to fall, Darn it!

Sorry guys, it was game over before it started.

Temperatures and dewpoints are over 3C widely, and the cloud from the low is going to make temperature stall.

I'm under clear skies, and my temperature is stalled..... 4.5C here.

Not like any precipitation will reach this far North anyway. :(

Before midnight, but the cloud from that low is gonna ruin it for us.#

3.7C now, it's falling fast, but it's not enough. Need to push more.
