North Yorkshire Dales - Swaledale

Thought I'd have a drive to one of my favourite places today as the weather was the best it's been for quite a while, lovely crisp winter sun with the temp around 4-5c.

I entered the Dales from Kirkby Stephen along the B6270 into the Western part of Swaledale heading east towards Reeth.

You lucky devil,beautiful part of the country.Spent a few days up in the Dales end of November last year just outside

Richmond.Didn,t have weather like you had.

That second last one shows quite shocking unchecked river bank erosion since I took this in 2003

(probably from the exact same spot!)

I used to work on a farm near there in the early 80s when it just started to happen.

Local opinion was that it could have been contained with minor work but now you'd need a month with big diggers or something.

Eventually it will probably settle into a new channel and vegetation will gradually lock the round stones in place.

Wow what a difference, I knows it's 8 years since but the change is quite significant! A massive scale operation would be needed to rectify this.

I'd love to work in the dales, it's a stunning part of the country and always amazes me when I venture over.

Lovely photographs. I do have a soft spot for the dales especially swaledale. I plan to head over to upper wharfedale on saturday looking forward to a decent walk.

I think you will have equally stunning weather on Saturday, It was magical today with the winter sun, the pictures don't do the scenery justice I think the low sun and long shadows don't make for good pictures on my average 14mp digital camera. enjoy your time in the dales on Saturday - a truly wonderful place.

Nice place to take the camera, Dentdale and Sedbergh are also great for scenary. I woudnt want to drive around there ice and snow though!.
