Backtrack is indeed lurking!

Oh dear oh dear, what a huge turn around from the GFS and ECM this morning.

12z, 18z and 00z showing an Easterly to extreme measures, whilst the 06z develops a shortwave, and instead leaves us in mild, southerly air.

For Western areas, it's a massive upgrade for tomorrow night, but for a decent cold spell, it's simply dire for us in the West.

I do want to see a few more runs before I make my mind up on the Easterly, we had 3 runs in agreement yesterday, including the ECM.

I knew this would happen when I woke up! A horrible dream about shooting people and now this.

Are you mad?

6z in the best run of the last 3/4, battleground snow lasting 4 days+ from next Wednesday.

On closer inspection, we do get a set up for sustained cold as a possibility, but it would be the West that benefited most from this model run.

Verify please.

All this snow which is forecast for Wales, what's the chances of my location further east getting In on some of the action?

I've just woke up, my eyes be deceiving me! :p

Yeah, good run for the West, plenty of battlegrounds with cold winning each time, with something that could rival February 2009. :winky:

I think I was getting used to seeing that -15C air over us, looked this morning and was like 'say whatttttt'

Imagine that, heavy sustained snowfall, drifting and blizzards... In the WEST!!! :p

Right ramping over folks!

Many more twists and turns to come I'm sure, but keep your fingers crossed for further outputs of a similar magnitude. :)

Tell you something, if the 12z has that warm front 50 miles further East, we're truly in business.

The forecasts at the moment have 12 hours of light snow over me on Sunday. If it was pushed further East, that'd be 16 hours of heavy snow. A great run for the West, I do hope it verifys, as it would lead to something even spicier after the initial battlegrounds. :D

Also - Minus 6/minus 7C widely from February 1st onwards. Going to be a good month folks. And my forecast published in October looks to have this month nailed. :D

Well it'd probably bury NW England. :)

When is this snow going to start then Backtrack.

Buxton might be too far East to benefit from the warm front tomorrow, but I'll wait until the 12z to say for sure.

BT you should know better than to cite FI runs that are obvious a few pins short of a hairstyle!!

it does look good for he NW for snow though, I have to say, in this situation where milder air is trying to push in, the cold spell would most likely be shorter (a-la ECM), but snowier.. and I'd settle for that.

The only other option is the colder for longer scenario where we would have very little chance of seeing significant snow, other than the odd flurry.

Nothing beats a good ramp and a glass of orange juice to start the morning!

I'm ramping more about Sunday which is looking interesting. But yeah, I know I shouldn't ramp about the medium term, because it's probably not going to happen.

We've had good consistency for cold though on 4 GFS runs now. So I think we can safely say it's going to be cold. How cold and how long remains TBC.

Morning CS, hope you're holding out OK, I'm sorry to hear that :(

Perhaps some Sunday snowfall will cheer you up? :)

Yesterday you missed the coldest 12z and 18z I've ever witnessed! :o

So do we bank the GFS run now, or risk it and go for gold on the 12z? :o

Temp has reached 2.7c here and continues to rise, hoping the warm front stays out west now as conditions aren't good for snow yet. I don't want rain.

Sky becoming overcast with upper and mid level clouds.

Had snow yesterday, was quite hefty around rush hour and I heard the M62 was closed temporarily around J22. Pics from yesterday when snow was falling, and today in the lovely sunshine
