Interesting appearance of some precipitation across from Berwick and Eyemouth. Eyes peeled anyone in that area :search:

Yes, it just sums up the Scottish Winter so far. Dull and depressing!

We will have to watch on as parts of England get buried for about 18-24 hours.

It is time for the snow to be shared around the UK, we always hog most of it!

So all the best to our friends down south, enjoy what will be a great event!

None of this 20 minute snow showers nonsense I have become used to this Winter, SO FAR! :-)

The first NAE for the front is out:

Marginal is indeed the right word to describe this. 950hpas look distinctly dodgy BUT there is still hope - if the shortwave stalls further west then we'll pull up the cold air from eastern England on the east side of the shortwave and eastern areas will end up with snow. The other saving grace would be if the cold sector behind the shortwave squeezes the warm sector out:

It's touch and go but we're very much still in the game. I remember with 'Bawbag' there was a disagreement between the NAE and NMM about the placement and timing of the low so I would neither rule us in or out at the moment. I'll get the Skew-Ts out after the 18Zs....

big frost here this morning and really raw out - but lovely sunny day.

Nail biting stuff for Sat. Keeping everything crossed we will see something!

Upper temps at 60 & 72 hrs looking better on the UKMO 12z now.

post-7292-0-51035600-1328200094_thumb.gi

The main scandi cold pool moving ever so slightly west , whilst the NW incursion of cold edging sharper inland.

The models agreed on the stall of the front.. still all about where...

Fun begins here on the 12z GFS and sends most of the SE into rampede mode. Will it back a little west yet??

Think they will be getting updated daboss with all the Ice risks for overnight tonight plus if they are in ramp mode some amber ones for snow in the SE - you know what a few cms does down there :help:

Hopefully the wacky 18z can be our friend OTR, it has delivered some good runs for us up here to drool over of late...

It's important in the longer term that the boundary is further west, or at least more favourably tilted. That UKMO has the front stalling very close to Scottish shores with -6C uppers. The slower the progression of the front the better, as it will allow the cold air to undercut. Ideally we want the heaviest stuff arriving in the west of Scotland by about midday, with the warm sector being completely squeezed out from the west and the south. Marginal blizzards are perhaps the only kind of proper sustained blizzard:

I was hoping for more of a physical alpine-esque outdoor frolicking than indoor drooling though! :acute:

It does, wouldn't it be brilliant though if the front ended up further west and gave Scotland, the Midlands, the northwest, Wales and the northeast of England a pasting.

Favourite site of today has to be this one for representation of the oppressive cold across Europe. Point de rosee means dew point I guess. Link is for the overnight European minimum temps. Truly harsh.

I have been out for a lot of the day and thought I had nothing else to do but catch up with the model thread. WRONG!! God, it's a jungle in there! Too much IMBYism to get a handle on things. I haven't got a clue! (not that I ever did!)

Just watched the weather forecast on BBC News channel and it was quite a disappointing forecast for Scotland. Hope this improves in the later forecasts today taking into account the latest data.

Yes, I do admire the optimism in here.

However, this will be a non event for Scotland. (Borders might catch something decent)

Wet & Windy for 95% of lowland Scotland then milder for a good few days afterwards.

As for next week this is the hype chart from the UKMO run.. this keeps it's trajectory and we will have a re-load of cold spun our way.

GFS doing it's Azores thing, will be interesting to see where the ECM lands this and the GEFS.

By pure coincidence, I'm heading down to the Cotswolds tomorrow. Usually it snows up here whenever I head south.....but could this be perfect timing for a change?

In other news, this morning was the coldest it's been here since December 2010! -4.5C around 8am. Still haven't had an ice day though since....erm....December 2010 I think, as the temperature briefly nudged up to 0.5C for 20 minutes or so this afternoon. Perishing cold now though. Currently down to -2.7C.

I was up Schiehallion this afternoon. Bloody nora the wind was cold up there!
