Its one of those set ups tonight which favours snowfall away from coastal parts in the region, all will depend on the intensity of the precipitation, the heavier the precipitation the greater the level of evaporative cooling even if uppers and dewpoints do look quite marginal for many. The other key factor will be altitude.

Given we are currently sitting at around -3 degrees I am expecting at least a slight cover and if the precipitation is moderate then an inch or more could occur which would be a lovely surprise in the morning on the first day of winter - a white advent very seasonal.

It's currently minus 2 in Carlisle and raining! Temp & dew rising.

Just started to very lightly snow here in Hebburn, been watching the lampost like a hawk!!

Your right it is, sounded like something else was mixed in also(snizzle?) but its a bit of a surprise to me as I thought with the reports in Scotland reporting rain, it will be around here also.

Be typical if it turns to rain though!

Light snow here, absolutely no problem settling on the frozen surfaces.

I hope it's not freezing rain by the early hours of morning - the ice was bad enough today already!

I will hopefully have time to venture out into the Pennines tomorrow, where hopefully a white cover will greet me!

Looks like it's snowing a bit at South Shields judging by Neil Bradshaw's webcam:

http://www.southshie...y's_weather.htm

The precipitation will probably reach my area between 1 and 2am judging by its recent progress. Looking promising re. getting a slight covering here tomorrow morning if it can keep most of its intensity while moving between Tyneside and North Yorkshire- a big "if" though! It's gone up to -1.1C here now.

Encouraging signs to see that people are reporting snow at +2C, perhaps the colder air is undercutting faster than anticipated. Either that or there is pockets of colder 850 air in the north east.

Temperature still dropping here under cloudy skies. -1.5C. :)

Please please please, can we have the NORTH EAST regional thread back for the winter, most posts on here have absolutely no relevance to the North East, except for tonight, when there is absolutely no relevance to all of those living in Manchester, Liverpool or Lancs.

Thanks mods,

Karl

ps if you agree, please "like"

Fog slowly starting to thin out here now, certainly not as dense as 30 mins ago, temp is still dropping slowly though.

Light snow here on the NE coast and its sticking, no melt as yet with temps just hovering around 0.4ºC and Dp at -2.2ºC.. Temp should start to rise as the cloud cover increases.

Sorry no, it's not busy enough yet. Considering there's 54 users reading this topic when for example the Yorkshire thread in Dec 2010 would see in excess of 120 it's no where near the level of posts.

And I like reading whats happening further north.

:)

You're right; Newcastle has very different weather to Liverpool, Manchester has very different weather to Hull, Blackpool has very different weather to Crewe and Buxton has very different weather to Skipton ... I think the 'very-regional' threads you were talking about though are only set up when there is widespread snow or widespread floods or gales.

I assume that is freezing rain rather than a boring old wetting ;P

Mate you should know this by now, west of pennines = rain, east of pennines = snow, lol.

Just reporting what is being posted by a user on TWO.. -4C and rain will cause a lot of issues, especially on the M6.
