Cold and mainly cloudy overnight with severe frost, low –3.9c with –6.5c on the snow / grass. At observation, frosty, overcast, a few light snow flakes falling. still 1cm snow lying 55%. Remaining cloudy with the odd flake of snow. Feeling very cold by later afternoon as a moderate south-easterly kicked in. Continuous light snow commenced around 19:00 hrs.

I think this snow event has been well and trully overplayed.

London....1cm and light snow.

Southend on Sea....bone dry ....zero snow.

Maldon Essex..........bone dry....zero snow.

I think amounts elsewhere will be much llower too with just a few centimeters. I think we are looking at the lower estimates and not the ramped up forecasts of upper estimates.

Continuous light snow all morning here but probably not adding more than about 2cm the depth at 0900. The temp' is -3.5c

Just had a quick look through my records and we haven't had an individual snowfall greater than 20cm in January since 1987 when 37 cm fell on the 13th.

Quite astonishing at this altitude as every other month between November and April has managed at least one snowfall greater than that in the last 10 years.

I'm not sure if it fell during one continuous event, but not even January 2010? It depends on what part of the Peak District you're from, I suppose: there were phenomenal depths west of Buxton where the drifts lasted into May above 400m.

Although over 30cm fell in total during January 2010 the largest single fall here was just 11cm on the 3rd.

I'm at the southern end of the Peak District, on the limestone moors near Matlock.

Been snowing steadily here in Reading all day, and was quite heavy for a couple of hours around late morning. For once the forecast seems not to be an exaggeration here - right now the depth is approaching 10cm and snow is still falling steadily, the most we've had since the exceptional fall of January 2010.

Not here in Egham just to the west of the M25 it hasn't. 10cm/4 inches here or slightly over and the radar shows some more light-moderate snow moving in. This is at the top range of or above predictions. Yesterday we were in the Met Offices '2-5cm generally, up to 10cm over hills' box.

In terms of the weather here today, fine powdery snow started around or just after 8am. this gave about an inch by about 11am when heavier snow with larger flakes came in until about 2pm when it eased back to lighter stuff again. Almost stopping recently apart from some very small flakes/snow grains/ice crystals drifting down.

At home in East Devon last night it was mainly rain/sleet/wet snow with nothing settling in the valley, although the hills around had/have lying snow on them.

fine powdery snow from about 1400 then larger flakes by 1600 and still similar with around 2cm lying on most parts other than main roads, T=-1.4C and Td=-2.4C with quite a SE breeze giving a wind chill of -3.7C at the moment, has been down to -5C not long ago.

Persistent light/mod snow all day now have a depth of 18cm, snow has eased only very light now but starting to drift. A high of -1.9c.

Snow all day, heavy around late morning, leaving 11cm on the ground here - the most we've had since January 2010 and similar to February 2009 (we didn't get a great deal here in December 2010). Still a few flakes in the air. Looks like the area to the west of London had plenty of snow from this event. 24 hour maximum 1.5 deg C (overnight), minimum (now) -1.2. Wind moderate E.
