I'm fed up with graupel! Could this end up as 18 hours of the stuff?

That's all we've had here too, the sound it makes when it lashes against the window is irritating as hell too!

Surprised to hear penrith has settling snow there is nothing in thé kendal windermere area ter however it bodes well for out prospects incidentally temps in penrith rose High today up to 3 degrees

I only recorded 0.9c but I am a few miles north of Penrith and usually a bit colder.

Snow now very light but its stuck on cars and pavements making the view white from my bedroom window.

Fingers crossed the MetO has this wrong and we will get snow, God we deserve it after 2 years of foul weather!

Yep i agree Snowmegedon but don't lose heart, here its just starting to turn to small hail and snow flakes, im only a couple of miles closer to the coast from you in Normanby, you should start to see the same soon.

Sleet melts my snow, I'm not having that imposter try and be cute with me.

But its not rain though as you claim it to be!

No fancy term but a slightly better meaning than my other one above is sleet is a mix of rain drops and snowflakes and the ratio can vary alot depending on how heavy and cold the air is.

Don't know how accurate Accuweather is but it says temp in Boro at the minute is 1c, with a DP of -1c, so if it is rain when the heavier stuff starts i'll be miffed.

Looking at the last radar return at 22:15 it doesn't look like there is any heavy stuff headed our way, just more light showers.

Dew point still below -1c here.

This has been an intriguing cold spell with weak blocking signals to the north (though such signals do exist) and an Atlantic that is crashing into southern Britain and France instead of Iberia and North Africa- lots of wintry events and high snow quantities without the deep cold. Fun spell to watch and definitely better than anything the last 2 years have produced for the NE.

But rain in Thornaby/Boro... suggests a non event for us?

I can tell you, that's its deffo turning more wintry, geordiesnow might be on the money when he said a rain to snow event, we'll soon find out.

Snowstorm if its turning more wintry here, it deffo will for you further inland.

Very fine snow, could be sleet, even standing outside I can't tell...breeze picking up.

NickR will be SEETHING when it starts raining in Gilesgate.

Nah. I'm in a different place now. I'd just laugh I think... Though I know that will come as a disappointment to you, Hagler.
