Looking threw the last few hours here the wind has gone from a easterly to a SSE and the temperture has droped 2c in two hours and the dew point has drpoed with it. Less sea modifacation

Looking at that band moving up from the south just hope it keeps increasing in size therefore bringing the south of our region into play.

No difference here. Still 1.5c and sleet.

Non event south of Newcastle I think.

I'm not sure how we can get any med-heavy showers tonight here... looks like it'll all be north and we'll get clear skies to me.

Possible veering of the wind direction?

Possible veering of the wind direction?

When is that due to happen? (I'm assuming more ESE that SE)

Not only has the temp droped but the wind has completly droped here. Proper snow here for the first time today giving us a dusting

Temp down to 0.7 from a high of 2.9

Yes you can see the wind change to the south of our region here.....http://www.xcweather.co.uk/. Observations say heavy snow in Loftus,

Annoying to be missing some proper big-flake snow after a day of small flakes and graupel in a blizzard.

I genuinely cannot see how anywhere south of chester-le-street is going to get anything substantial unless the wind changes direction.

Likely to be any snow in Newcastle tonight?

This sleety wet snow mix is wearing thin now!

Changing for the worse.

The only hope for most of us is if the wind switches back to a more E'ly rather than S'ly direction.

Worse? Can't get much worse than sleet. I would rather rain or snow.

Still nothing here,

Feels bitter,

not sure how relevant the nearest weather station to me is as a good few miles away.

But temps reading at 2.4°c and DP 2°c.

Even without the snow that we'll miss tonight, away from the main Gilesgate road it's a blanket of refreshed whiteness! :)

It'll be neither if it keeps being from the South... there'll be no ppn at all.

Just up the road in Saltburn its been snowing on and off all evening. Its odd though, the snow looks like shards of glass sticking out of whatever its settled on. I know its been coming down very wet - almost like falling slush but this is a new one on me.

Is this band of snow heading my way, or am I destined for slush again?

The way it's going it'll pass through and you'll be dry for most of the night!

Surprised Freezing point is reporting sleet because the PPN here is all wintry, albeit its mainly snow grains rather than snowflakes. I know this because the snowgrains have now settled on the wet surfaces(Eg roofs) and has given a light dusting.

Things are swinging our way it seems, shame it took so late in the day to do so.
