Now a dusting on pavements, cars etc. Coming down thick and fast. Expecting this to ease up soon, it must...surely.

EDIT: It has. Damn.

Synoptics: 6/10: Some great charts and much excitement at times but ultimately the end product wasn't quite so great - esp in this area of kent which is usually a very favoured spot ( maybe feb with prove better )

Snowfall: 6/10: Overall depth wasn't that great ( topped out at 8-9cm ) and there has been an awful lot more here in recent years ( over 30cm in dec 2010 ), it was still great to see and enough to build a snowman and go sledging with kids :)

Frosts: 6/10: Its never really got that cold overnight so 5/10 for that but I've added another point as daytime temps havent got any higher than 1.5c - 2c max over last week with 3 consecutive ice days which is pretty decent going I think

So my score, for winter to date is 18/30 so an average of 6 from me.

DP - near Charing ( between Ashford & Maidstone on N Downs )

I'm just a fairly short distance ENE of you (locally). The Friday into Saturday snowfall was impressive as it mirrored the one we had last February with temperatures and dewpoints very low and assisted by the conditions over the continent - despite an onshore wind, especially to begin with. Sunday was more straightfoward with no channel influence (in terms of the wind). By yesterday however, we had lost the colder upper air and low dewpoints, so it was always going to be much harder to get settling snow. In fact I had expected rain, so the fact that this didn't happen was better than anticipated, even though steady non settling snow is frustrating to watch - especially as it further conspired to melt what was on the grounddoh.gif

Despite the extra snowfalls, I would rate this cold spell less than the previous February one simply because the snow lasted a full week with some hard frosts and low dewpoints to follow. This has only managed a few days.

Interseting to hear your take on it Tamara, I am down in the cove at Fairlight and elevation played a key role this time as the firehills hung on to its fall where as the thaw was quite quick on Saturday and again Monday in the cove.

An interesting spell that early February one,as it really only hung on from Hastings along to East Kent coastline especially,we kept sub zero days whilst as near as Tonbridge were at 5c by day.

It's pelting down here, and settling. And I'm not kidding either.

My nieces will be pleased! :D

Love the idea of the Snow Depth Cup, couldn't one of the matches be between M Fish v CWT2012. Now that I would pay good money to see.

Gary, I doubt that make rulers that long! Sorry CWT.

Got to say it, he took the stick well, last night.

Cheers,

Tom.

Must be marginal in Hanwell, just spoke to my sister and she says it is sleeting there, she is just off the Boston Manor Rd

Light sleet here, getting breezy too, but radar not promising for me.

It's been snowing on and off all day round south Bucks. Mostly melting on roads and cars, but the last lot has been settling on grass. Interesting how it seems to be generated from London!

Really? I'm genuinely not 'trolling', it hammered it down for about five minutes but as soon as it started to settle it fizzled out.

Keep an eye on the radar those on the South Coast from Brighton (possibly Newhaven) North Westwards, there is ppn still building off the coast. Only light right now, but could build-up on landfall.

Wasn't saying that mate, just interesting to see how marginal it can be!

(Plus my nieces think I am totally bonkers :D )

Synoptics 5/10 So much ups and downs, promised alot especially Friday for me but it didn't happen, Sunday got it a get out of jail card as far as I'm concerned

Snowfall 6/10 Most this mark came from Sunday's 12hr snowfall event, shame it was light snow, Last Friday was a huge downer for the Medway Towns we seemed to have a snow shield over us then and also this current week since Sunday.

Frost 3/10 Hardly had a frost at all, Too much cloud clover, breeze and mist at times.

Looking good for those to the North and NW of London, plus West Sussex, Hants, Bucks and Berks should all keep watching that radar! Shame the convection in London is starting just too close to me.
