Gawd blimey looby, perish the thought.

Right I'm off to 'ave me pie, mash and jellied eels, then back to work cleaning chimneys! biggrin.png

See you all later!

Tom.

Don't forget double liqueur

With all this heavy rain about, are they watching the river wandle or the Bourne stream at the moment, or are those still ok?

The wandle is looking high

It still has enough of a Northern arm in some runs from this morning to worry us along the South coast a little. If it remains on the same track or does drop further South, then the 100 km/hr gusts should be less of a worry. Hi-res stuff starting to come into the timescale and still have the South West in for some fun and games. Then will it transfer along The Channel to affect the South Eastern coasts??

06z GFS and you might lose your smalls in Eastbourne (always a possibility wink.png )

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it for sure. That GFS chart looks very windy for where I live too and the rear flank of the low is now showing for Friday evening, rather than Saturday morning, which seemed to be the case yesterday.

12z GFS out soon so we can see what latest thinking is. We also get the hi-res output at the 'time of interest' overnight so we should have a good idea tomorrow morning :good:

I guess JP's looking at the proximity of 528 DAM air to us, meaning a snow possibility. smile.png Especially with weather fronts in the vicinity.

Just for those looking for the relevance of the 528 dam thickness line:

convergence_line1.gif

Convergence line

A slow-moving trough, which is parallel to the isobars and tends to be persistent over many hours or days. They are quite common in cold northerly outbreaks down the Irish Sea, affecting west Wales, Devon and Cornwall in particular, but can be found in other areas also. This convergence line can gives hours of persistent precipitation over very localised areas, whilst a few miles down the road it is relatively dry, leading to some heavy snowfall/rainfall. In summer the convergence lines are not as easy to forecast, but then can still occur due to sea-breeze convergence, and are over the land, whilst in winter they are over the sea.

This convergence line is on Saturday's fax chart, sitting over e/se

A nice sunny afternoon here. It's quite a nice thought to me that the sun is still pretty evident, compared to even a couple of weeks ago; a reminder that the commute in darkness will soon be over :)

Here is a link for sunrise / sunset times, which I quite like.

OK, 12z GFS for hints and general direction:

Still windy but this could be considered a little less strong and slightly delayed from previous runs:

Gusts show up further down into France now as models come to grips with the position of the low:

Still up to 73 km/hr in some parts:

Very blowy on the western side of the M25, vans and lorries looking a bit wobbly and leaves and branches swirling everywhere. Super-gusty now in the garden.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics
