What's your thoughts on Irlam tomorrow mate? As posted above models are showing anywhere from 15-50CM!! Madness.

I'm not expecting a lot. Having said that I remember late February 1994 which had a frontal system pushing up from the SW and it stalled over the region and we got a good covering from it. There was hardly any wind associated with it.

I don't know what's going to happen.

Will Macclesfield get any snow and if so how much could we see?

Without a doubt 20cm easily, especially with your altitude

I think either way it will be our biggest fall of winter...

I think we're on unchartered territory with this 'event'. Had we had a warm spell before this I would say very little would accumulate. However having had some sharp frosts and some cloudy and cold days, the ground temps should be supportive of settling snow more widely. Hence most of what falls could stick more readily.

i have heard quotes from some of upto 75cm over north wales

and that was not paper rubbish

C.S

I have seen some reports saying that N Wales is expecting in excess of 75CM, but what the knock on effect will be for west cheshire is anyone's guess at the moment. Hey if we do end up 40CM+ it will be the best since 96, making 2010 pale in comparison here for snow.

How is liverpool showing a 'light snow day' on the met office forecast when this is there detailed forecast?

http://www.metoffice...ol#?tab=fiveDay

Click on the Friday tab

When it starts snowing, it's hardly going to change from heavy snow to sleet then immediately back to heavy snow. The forecast in general for Liverpool is heavy snow from the early hours through all day saturday

Yep and given ground temperatures are likely to take a hit over the next few days, the same is possible IMO

The key is calm air. If the wind drops out like with GFS is hinting and we have high pressure then temperatures could plunge in the cold airmass.

We had a very cold airmass that Monday but there was a wind associated with it. You are not going to get very low minima under those conditions despite the very cold uppers. You low minima occur under calm conditions and infact the lowest temperature from that spell was recorded under such conditions after the very cold uppers had retreated.

Just come in from work and the latest charts suggest better prospect for areas around Manchester and a little north and east of this. BBC forecast reminded me of a classic 80's setup. Peter Gibbs (one of the better one's) suggest snow virtually non-stop Friday/Saturday. Colder air winning out as it stalls and eventually sinks south. Could be very bitter up in the hills.

I guarantee this event will not see the the 2010 one pale in comparison. In manchester that is.

maybe not in manchester, but I think both Liverpool and West Cheshire, two of the poor spots in the North West, for any kind of

snow depth, compared to other places like Billinge / Wigan and the higher routes. It's been a very long time since 96 that

we can say we've had more than 15CM snow. So in that respect, I think its been due for a long time, compared to other

places that do get it (the snow). There may well be black spots like Preston that struggle like West Cumbria, Liverpool and West Chesire, probably even Crewe.

I've known many a time when Manchester had all the snow, and all we got along the mersey was pouring down rain.

It's going to be difficult gauging where that snow will really fall. Hardly worth staying up, if it manages to slide over me, and dump 10 miles further north where you are :p

I will wait to see what is likely to happen before I make a decision.
