Any covering in Irlam? I'm in Stockport and there isnt an ounce here, just wet ground. What a let down! Pesky Pennines.

Slight covering on grass. Some on roofs. Notable snow has collected in sheltered spots.

Wow very gusty now whipping snowflakes around and around.

Don't ask! Couple of cm maybe.

Altitude was key particularly as to when the snow settled in the night, apparently quite a bit more around Keele than Betley, which is just 5 miles away.

What are our chances for later Ian?

I really cant see where this snow is going to come from today, unless there is going to be an intensification of the band.

AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH !!!!!!

Thats better. Enough of the Manchester snow shadow ........... less than a mile N of Preston it is a complete whiteout, full on blizzard, snow cover all fields, side roads etc. M6 down to 2 lanes, and still snowing heavily right up to just N of Lancaster when it just stops.

Back in Preston snow stopping no cover etc etc. Whatever excuse the snow needs to avoid Preston it does just that ..... waiting for tonights non event now blum.gif

All the forecasts keep saying things are going to intensify here later & overnight, so it will be interesting to see how that mass of precipitation moves on the radar, I shall not throw the towel in yet

Well despite very little on the radar is been coming down fine and fast for a good while now.

If it was THICK and fast, then yes, the 20-40cm may of been accurate. I'm yet to see any big flakes.

Wet here in the very south of Manchester

Some flakes blowing around. Nothing of note. Ah well. Hopefully tonight-tomorrow. :(

I think that the forecast was pretty much spot on (up to now) as on the BBC radar the snow fizzled out over the North West during the morning and only intensified (or the other front joining) later this afternoon and overnight.

Yes, it was a disappointment to see SO much snow fall and 90% melt on impact, but hopefully tonight with lower temps and lower DPs that we should get a nice cover. Who knows eh?

I'm at work at the moment, what are the latest BBC weather forecasts showing?

Temp now 2.3c snowing heavly but thawing of lying slush almost complete. Very poor really and I can't see any falls of snow overnight as it looks too me that the main band of precipitation will be too far East.
