Lovely warm sunshine at the moment, but hoping we get some of those thunderstorms later! Temp is 13.5C after a min of 8C.

There are heavy showers forecast, due to push eastwards during the afternoon/evening, with risk of thunder more towards Dorset/Devon but am hopeful they may edge this far east drinks.gif

A more organised band of showers will rattle through during the early hours, certainly a risk of hail and thunder mixed in, gusty winds too.

ELT's cold enough for hail production, and convective gust potential running along the south coast. :)

Cluster of cells heading N/NE along the Bristol Channel coast currently.

Can see the darker skies to my east and just caught the very edge of one, produced some large raindrops.

I've had the rain radar running for a few hours now so I could keep an eye on things whilst my washing was outside drying.  The showers seem to do exactly what snow showers do and break and go around us.  My washing is lovely and dry smile.png Sunny spells here currently.

Had one heavy downpour earlier at about 2.30 but has been largely sunny with big dark clouds to the west since. :)

Just had a couple rumbles of thunder up here north of Bristol :) Moving off now though fairly quickly.

Lucky bugger. I'm stuck in the Warminster/Westbury area with rather clear and sunny skies currently.

Seen some awesome clouds on my way home. Seen many flashes of lightning and some loud thunder. Saw a great cloud to cloud strike which was bright purple! Here's a few pics

It's actually quite nice out there :) have just taken a picture as a shower was just clearing. It was still raining quite heavily when I took this, but I wasn't picked up!

Right, now I can post.

There was a brief very intense cell that moved across about an hour ago here with heavy hail and overheard thunder and lightning. Two flashes and rumbles followed as it tracked northwards. Just general rain now.

Looks like another cell just off the coast of Cornwall :D could be interesting?

I think that could be the beginnings of an area of more persistent rain rather than shower cell, due to come up from the SW overnight tonight and into tomorrow morning;

Thought I would copy this here as it is specific to our region;

"Discussion:

... SW ENGLAND, W COUNTRY, S WALES ...

For these areas, main lightning chances during this forecast period will be associated with a well-marked shortwave trough which will cross the area during the early hours of Friday morning in a northeastward direction. Convection should be sufficiently deep (for example ELTs occasionally reaching -40C) for some sporadic lightning activity - unlikely to be widespread, however, especially due to the elevated nature of such convection (nocturnal surface inversion etc).

During Friday, while there may initially be some post-trough convection, strengthening ridging during the day should gradually cause convective showers to weaken and decay, leaving a largely dry second half of the afternoon and evening"

The 0.05 GFS model suggests there will be some thunderstorms coming in from the west which will hit areas like Exmoor as they move SE passing through the Bristol channel tomorrow morning.

Areas prone to thunderstorms within the red and the arrow represents what route I expect the possible thunderstorms to take.
