A spell of persistent heavy rainfall is likely to spread across northern parts of both Wales and England as well as parts of the north Midlands during Monday. Strong to gale force west or northwest winds could also develop during Monday morning. The public should be aware of the potential for surface water flooding.

 

Chief Forecaster's assessment

 

A developing storm is expected to reach the UK later on Sunday and track northeastwards across England and Wales on Monday. Heavy rain and strong winds will affect many areas of England and Wales with northern parts of England and north Wales probably escaping the worst of the wind (see the separate wind warnings if you are traveling southwards) but likely to be affected by some very heavy rainfall. This warning has been updated to bring the northern boundary further south.

 

Southern half of the region on the boundary now comes inline with NMM showing little rain hitting the region

Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland, Stockton-on-Tees, Durham, Darlington, South Tyneside, Sunderland, Gateshead, North Tyneside, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland

 

South Tyneside, Sunderland, Gateshead, North Tyneside, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland all removed this lunchtime

 

 

I am happy with that !

I doubt anywhere north of the Humber will be much affected - just another autumnal squally rain band.It moves through pretty quickly.

The wind is certainly picking up this afternoon some heavy showers on the way looking at the radar

As expected we have avoided the worst, light winds since last night and just 4.1mm of rain NMM suggested we'd miss the worst of the rain and it was right.

 

It should brighten up as the day goes on 12pm onwards is the best chance for some sunshine

Light winds gav lol i have not seen a leaf move, considering we where under a yellow warning yesterday morning for wind and rain, honestly i just cant believe how much the press have hyped this up and the worst being sky news, even this morning eamonn holmes was saying how are we going to recover from this, pathetic, honestly if this standard autumn storm was further north it would not be getting the coverage it has been and still is, rant over

It's easy to think that from here, but it really  has been serious enough in the south, and could easily have been 100 miles further north.Even so it wasn't much more than a squally autumn rain band even there.I sometimes think buildings and trees and working practices  etc over time become shaped by the local climate - and the degree of 'acceptable' and expected damage from typical conditions is not that different wherever you are.So 40mph gusts in London make cranes fall over but in Newcastle it would need 70mph to do it!
