4 years!! Is that all?Before the storm I (and many other Bristolians) had last week, it was 7 years since the last proper thunderstorm here.

I've satisfied my craving for now. Last week was awesome here. However, I don't think I can wait another 7 years again so I might take you up on that next year.Hopefully more places will get some more this year. The more thundery potential we get, the greater the chance.I notice from the other thread that some of your fellow countrymen have got lucky today though. Edited by AWD

Dark skies NE of me, raining steady/hard with a good rainbow and v.windy. waiting to hear a rumble with my 4yr old. He tells me there will be one in a min.(im sure hes saying that just to stay up later)

looking at radar think there may be be something on its way for the south coast What do you think AWD

Certainly some hefty radar returns representive of some heavy rainfall heading for the Bourenmouth/Southampton area.With diurnal heating fading and CAPE relaxing now I think the threat of any thundery activity is slowly waning now though.

Bit of a poor show today, only  0.3mm fall from some sorry looking showers.

Try again tomorrow I guess

A quick look to tomorrow then. CAPE is present for many inland areas of the region;

Although convective PPN moves NE with time, leaving clearer conditons to follow in from the South West;

post-12721-0-22530300-1375038266_thumb.j

Won't post any charts, but after viewing the NMM model, most of the shower activity across the region looks lightish and non-thundery. However, there is the exception, indicated below;

post-12721-0-68473300-1375038336_thumb.j

It's within this red circle where there is an increase in sheer and vorticity, coinciding with a peak in CAPE, allowing for the potential of a potent thunderstorm to develop.

I think the most prime location for this is around the Mendips, through to Warminster and up towards Newbury. 50 miles either side of that line has the potential for something thundery tomorrow.

Elsewhere it's similiar to today, with rain showers scattered around. Devon & Cornwall likely to clear up through the afternoon.

That looks like its going to pass to the East of me.

Looking South, there is a clear gap with Showers to the West & East of me.

Hi Ashley G, I use that app. The alarm setting is really good. Used it last week and it woke me up just before the storm arrived. In my eyes, its a 5* app!

Thanks Karl83, I downloaded it the day after those light shows and as we havent had anything really since then, i wasnt sure if it worked or not. I got it set on a 50mile radius and re-fresh every 20secs. (in hope to find anything)

Good stuff! I've got mine on a 10 Mile radius at the mo and 60 sec refresh. If you want to see if it works, set the radius higher to like 250 mile so you can get a gist of it. I'm sure there will be plenty of lightning around next week for you to test it on. Great app!!

Just got a direct hit from the "streamline" coming up from the south.

A small period of torrential rain followed by heavy rain either side.

Lots of surface water evident now.
