Lots of distant thunder to the south and southwest but can't help thinking it's going to miss here and go east again.

All,

Today is already starting to look quite lively, but just to illustrate how the shower situation developed during Saturday; Notable to see the line of small echos starting to develop from 11:00am, then if you look through the sequence, a line of intense precip develops with more activity arriving from France and just sitting across a good part of Somerset most of the afternoon and early evening. Yeovilton recorded over 21mm, the highest official total in the South West, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were much higher 'local' recording from somewhere!

Long low rumbles coming from the southwest this might be a big one

We must have had at least 50mph gusts with that last storm.

Yep, definitely - I still can't get over the intensity of the rain.

Not sure how clearly you can see, but that road is under about a foot of water. Cars are conking out and most roads are quite similar.

You can just make out the water up to the bumpers. Where are you. I'm in Upper Stratton and we still have thunder and lightning.

Amazing how the line of storms is splitting our region in half!

To the SE of the line it's still warm and quite sunny and washing is drying quickly lol, though it does seem like the cells near Frome are making more of a shift E than NE at present with recent lightning detected in them.

I heard frequent thunder to the NW of Westbury from around 11.00-midday when out working and the sky was stunning with gust fronts visible along with massive anvils that stretched overhead from the storm 10 or so miles away!

Ah! Rodbourne railway bridges. The favorite Swindon flashflood hot spot. Got a feeling storm drains converge there before passing the sewage works before entering the River Ray. Apparently you can drive a Range Rover down the storm drain under there it's that big. In these situations the water pushes up the manhole covers and floods the road, the drain still can't cope. This means Bridgemead Sainsburys most probably got flooded as well.

Yeah, I think you're right. This is the first time I've seen it flood since the new drainage system was done a few years ago, though.

Further rumbles of thunder now in South Bristol.

Had on/off showery bursts of rain for last few hours now. Garden well watered at last.

Lovely bright flash of lightning and deep rumble of thunder then.

Main core of the cells keep diverting to the SE of Bristol and head up towards Bath way though unfortunetly.
