Posts 448 through to 450 above, illustrate perfectly why it’s so difficult to please everyone with what in my view are already pretty fantastic NH synoptics, this early in the season. Yes, we can pick holes in the fact that somewhere else gets the action first but as I said yesterday, without baby steps we might as well not even bother chasing dream scenarios of much snow and ice. For any newbies, take a read of some of the more informative posts at the start of this thread or even delve into last year's archive, because, believe me, a strong October build-up of snow and ice over the near continent is potentially the key to something rather special down the line.

Just realized there are parking lots for snowmobiles at longyearbyen! zoom in  http://longyearbyen.livecam360.net/

Guess there is a point of time when most of  the chunky 4x4's  get put away for the winter.Posted Image

Thats because its a bit cloudy today, there was some weak sunshine lunch time yesterday on the archive.

Thats pretty impressive growth. 

I think that even if we stayed below 0c for 5months sea ice would still not reach Scotland.

 

The PV would have to encompass the entire 60N line I reckon for a whole year lol.

Pretty much impossible. But I am thinking that if we got three winters in a row of subzero highs then maybe it would happen. But like I say it has to be subzero for 5 months which has not happened before so that is pretty much impossible. Even if we did get 5 months below 0c it would not happen again the next year.
