ok....more meaningless but lovely September snow

Point barrow has a big temp drop in the last few days, showing the change of season so no more above freezing temps meaning 'any rain is snow'

Iceland also put a display of the snowgress towards winter eg http://www.yr.no/place/Iceland/Nor%C3%B0urland_Eystra/Askja/

Some sun  but plenty of the white stuff. post-15601-0-60919500-1379280340_thumb.jpost-15601-0-54803500-1379280357_thumb.jpost-15601-0-93979500-1379280357_thumb.jpost-15601-0-46826300-1379280358_thumb.jpost-15601-0-94121200-1379280358_thumb.jpost-15601-0-44163900-1379280359_thumb.jpost-15601-0-93270300-1379280359_thumb.jpost-15601-0-43224000-1379280360_thumb.j

Apologies if this has already been posted. August snow cover was above the 81-10 average this year (but below the 71-00 average in the graph)

http://climate.rutgers.edu/snowcover/table_rankings.php?ui_set=1

Largest August snow cover since 1998, markedly different from recent years.

This graph is for the entire NH, in Eurasia there was a shortage of snow.

A further gain in sea ice, up to 8.34M today.

http://www.ijis.iarc.uaf.edu/en/home/seaice_extent.htm

Snow cover has been more or less redistributed.

not sure how that ties in with the graph posted which says The latest value: 4,834,931 km2

You might want to add this to your favourites, the Icelandic Met Office site, always worth a look for snow junkies.

Lot's of snow next week in large parts of Siberia. In contrast to last year when there was (end of september) a large are of high pressure in Siberia. So the Snow Advance Index will not start with a very low starting point. We need lots of snow in october.

A considerable growth all around the sea ice and some top ups of snow on land.

Enjoy!Posted Image

Note, to really see the difference, open each image in a new tab and switch between the two. Much easier to spot the new growth.
