    A dry night with clear intervals but cloud began to increase from the south west before dawn; thick hill fog developed by 0600 g.m.t and has persisted since. After a dry start to the day moderate-heavy rain arrived around 1015 g.m.t, accompanied by a fresh-strong SE/E wind.

    Currently it's overcast and foggy with continuous moderate rain and a temp' of 7.2c.

    Wednesday 16th October 2013:

     

    Clear spells through to the early hours allowed the temperature to fall to 4.5c. High cloud increased as did the easterly  wind around 03:00 GMT. The day dawned partly cloudy and dry with mist over the fields. Turning overcast through the morning to observation. Rain set in around 11:00 GMT, moderate at times through in to the early afternoon. The rain became lighter around 14:00 GMT with a clearance arriving by late afternoon and early evening with a few brief sunny spells.

    Maximum temperature to 18:00 GMT yesterday: 12.9°C

    Minimum temperature overnight 4.9°C

    24-hour maximum 12.9°C

    Variable cloud overnight, drying out. The day dawned partly cloudy with fog forming, visibility quickly reducing to <100 yards. The fog cleared away before observation with a few bright and sunny spells developing. There were further bright spells, though there was a good deal of cloud for the most part with a few showers scatted around, this location only caught a few spots though.

    Clear spells overnight led to an unexpectedly low minimum.  Cloudy with drizzle in the morning, then a spell of moderate rain around lunchtime finally clearing by mid-afternoon.  Now breezy, clear and feeling milder  Maximum 13.2, minimum 3.6.  Wind moderate SW.

    well a varied sort of day, the coldest night since May, thick fog then rain until almost dusk, and the lowest daytime temperature since May, now its warming up!

    Moderate-heavy rain early in the afternoon became lighter by 1330 g.m.t and eventually cleared by 1530 g.m.t; the hill fog cleared around 1400 g.m.t. The cloud broke and dispersed during the early evening but not early enough to allow any sunshine.

    The fresh-strong SE wind veered SW by early evening and decreased to a moderate breeze.

    At 1800 g.m.t;

    Min' last night; 6.6c

    Grass min; 4.0c.

    Rainfall from 0800-1800 g.m.t; 11.5 mm

    A chilly start to the day, overnight low of 5.2c. Today saw a beautiful sunrise with fog on the outskirts of the city. Rain arrived mid morning, became heavier late morning before clearing away shortly after lunchtime, a sunnier afternoon breezy though. Top Temp 13.9c late in the day. Wind 15mph SW. Rainfall 8.2mm

    Clear to cloud last night, quite windy (SE) by dawn.

    Cloudy morning with spells of rain, very heavy 09 - 10am. Sunny 12 to 1630, then sunny intervals. Quite mild with a fresh to strong (SW pm) wind. Clear intervals this evening.

    • Exceptional warmth for western Europe as October begins

      There'll be exceptionally warm temperatures for the time of year affecting much of western Europe during the coming days, but that warmth will only graze the UK for now.
