agree karyo

that looks livelier tonight than a few nights ago

pressure up again??

Certainly looks healthy! Part of me though wishes this fissure eruption to end and another one to start somewhere under the ice!

Quote from Jon

Chemical mixture of the magma has changed. It is now coming from deep magma chamber at more than 10 km depth. This means the eruption is going to be long lasting.

Saw this link posted on VC. It's a 1999 documentary about the Vatnajokull glacier.

Sharp fall in the number if quakes since the 2 X M3.3 quakes this morning.

Seems to keep doing this   --  biggish quake drop in numbers -- slowly ramp back up --  biggish quake, drop in numbers,,  etc etc

Yes, also quite a few small quakes in Katla probably due to ice melt. Thankfully , the freeze will start there in a couple of weeks so we won't get this confusing quake signal for much longer

Three earthquakes above magnitude 3 in the caldera in the last couple of hours!

http://en.vedur.is/earthquakes-and-volcanism/earthquakes/

Looks like a sudden swarm of big quakes.  On JonFr's its showing a couple in the last 10 mins or so that are in excess of 3 (one perhaps a 4+).  IMO yet to verify.  Some of the tremor plots are quite high as well.

Yes Tim, like Norfolk said earlier, there seems to be a quiet and active pattern . We are entering the active one now  :)

Edit: the IMO has updated. We've just had three quakes M4, 4.5 and 5 at the same time!!!

Amazing stuff - there has been some talk on the various sites about 6+ earthquakes needed to cause some sort of structural damage to the volcano, but I wonder if actually repeated lower level quakes might have a similar effect.  The GPS thing has been showing a continued decline.

There's active and there' ACTIVE.

Look at this lot

Stress around the caldera now starting to ripple it's way out as soon as a quake hits,.  look sto me as those faults are very stressed and one of them only 1Km down

You only need 10 M5 quakes to be equivalent to an M6 (but 100 M4).  Anything over M5 brings us closer to what I expect will be an interesting eruption.  We are also now getting closer to new moon, sun and moon acting together, molten rock is much denser than water, but there will still be an effect
