It's hitting scotland mostly at the min, if it develops, seems a lot of uncertainty yet again.

This is the latest on it. https://forum.netweather.tv/topic/82129-new-years-day-possible-storm/page-3#entry3103126

ECM says no, the rest have it north of scotland, the Euro 4 has it slightly further south but still around scotland.

Oh dear !!! Thanks for the update. If it's not cold I don't even bother to look for it on the models lol.

Tonight

nmmuk-0-18-0.png?30-18

Clear, frosty for all with some freezing fog patches. Widely down to -1/2 but perhaps down to -5C in places

Tomorrow

PPVE89.gif?31415

South westerly wind, strengthening later

Looks dry and fine with sunny spells, though cloud will thicken later.

Temperatures

nmmuk-0-26-0.png?30-18

Back to average really 5-8C

New Years day

PPVI89.gif?31415

Strong south westerly winds

A dull and cloudy day, rain at times, especially later

Temperatures

nmmuk-0-50-0.png?30-18

Likely around 9-11C, so much milder.

2nd January

PPVK89.gif?31415

Moderate to fresh west/north west winds

Early rain will clear by dawn to leave a mostly fine and sunny day

Temperatures - 8-11C, but will fall through the day, it will be quite chilly in the wind.

That's all for now.

Thanks Matt :good:

Like the cold weather but would welcome not de-icing the car at six in the morning next week.

Saturday 3rd

PPVM89.png

Gentle westerly flow

Looks fine and sunny for most of the day. Fronts approaching late in the day

Temperatures - a chilly 5-7C

Sunday 4th

PPVO89.png

Moderate north westerly winds

Looks like another decent day with sunny spells.

Temperatures look near normal - 6-8C

A lot of uncertainty regarding fast moving shallow lows running along the jetstream which could affect the day to day conditions so expect changes but both days this coming weekend look decent with rain overnight.

Beyond this, nothing to suggest cold weather yet, but rainfall amounts don't look like being too high (near normal or just below) as the Azores high maintains a moderate influence on our part of the UK.

What on earth is a hoar frost ?!?

It's the look I get from the missus after I come in late from the pub  :diablo:

A mild 1.1c; overcastish.

Again we got to -4 last night, not sure if this is hoar frost or just normal frost? I have never taken the time to actually look at frost as it happens in the morning when I am usually in bed or im at work before its light.

Yep that looks like a hoar frost to me, or at least an air frost.

Not been out yet but another frosty night here, shed sensor thingy only took the temp reading down to 0.3oC when I got up earlier, but looks impressive as the last few days worth have not fully cleared.

Oh dear, the model thread is full of doom and gloom this morning. I do think people put to much emphasis on a SSW and what's going on in the Stratosphere, I'm sure there are other drivers that can and will affect our weather in the troposphere. Everyone looks at the strat thread and because there is no SSW assume no cold can be possible ( not true ) look at north west America at the moment, cold weather forecast to very low latitudes and this without any SSW.

Many of us stay away from the MAD thread for good reason.

Outbreak of winter sunshine here.

Hi everyone! Happy New Year to you all. I've just spent a few days in beautiful snowy Swadlincote in South Derbyshire, crunching around in crisp white fields. I hope it won't be the only time I see snow this winter, but it was a reminder of what we have been missing down here. Anyway, now back to reality, although the frost was beautiful this morning.

Beautiful frost this morning....wish I'd taken photos!

Some encouraging news from Chris Fawkes this morning regarding an SSW.....could lead to the change in model outlook we all yearn for!  At thre moment, there's less optimism about what the models are showing now than there was at this time last year.......and we know how last year turned out!!!!

Was -3.0c here at dawn! :smiliz19: :cold: iapennell's winter forecast is going okay! He was one of the few to predict last winter's horror show! Unfortunately he is forecasting another snowless January and February for the SE. :cray:  From now until the end of February it's gales and more gales! We will escape with the driest conditions, whilst most of the destruction and flooding will be saved for the north and west! I don't know how he does it, but he is more accurate than the so called 'experts'. I'm off to buy a rubber dinghy, hope everyone enjoyed the five minute snow falls they had! :(

Mild air is encroaching eastwards tonight figures typically ranging from 3-8C also cloudy not ideal for those fireworks visibility not great, maybe some localised air frosts but nothing major. Friday is looking tropical with cloud cover the worst type of drab, a far cry from the final last few days of December - next week may be chilly at times mixed with milder SW'lies & cooler or even 'colder' westerly flows. Returning the risk of widespread frosts, and more seasonal sort of winter fare. Further on much uncertainty, subtle hints of a 'change'.
