There may already be a thread for this so lock this if that's the case....

Met Office weather warnings have been issued for much of the country for heavy, frequent snow showers from tomorrow morning.

I do struggle to understand why the Met Office are only issuing a yellow warning at the moment. For the 10-15cm snow depths, you'd think that would begin to merit an amber warning, as those snow depths can give some heavy disruption...

You need to take a look at the warning matrix to see why:

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=warnings&map=Warnings&zoom=5&lon=-3.50&lat=55.50&fcTime=1422489600&regionName=uk

The reason why it's not amber yet is because of the low likelihood of such depths being widespread, despite these depths being disruptive IF they occur. Once the likelihood increases it will move into amber territory.

In the warnings again. I'm looking forward to more snow, it's been a decent winter here.

I think I'll miss out again - looks like rain/sleet showers for Nottingham and not very cold temperatures according to the Met office; daily max around 4c and min around 0c, yet Nottingham is in the warning zone. I won't get my hopes up again - last week I was left very dissapointed (a few miles up the road they were blanketed in snow!)

My area always does well in these setups. It seems like we get more snow from this kind than frontal snow, the exception March 2013 where we got 20cm+.

The BBC show maximum absolute temperatures, you could well find most of the day temps are 1 or 2 degrees below 4 and only temporarily nudge up the max value. Under showers temps will drop markedly anyway.

Either way this will be nothing like they are having over in USA, what an experience that would be!

Amber warning now from MetOffice, all of N.Ireland. parts of Scotland and NW ENgland. Grampian shows up but it is only a very small part that is covered, NE Scotland is rather shelter in this flow, as am I (boo) E.Lothian

Quite a few snow showers here today since about 1100 this morning. Nothing has pitched, but at least it's snow falling from the sky.

Was the micro low to the NW of Scotland well modelled? I thought we were expecting just troughs but that is looking like a stab at a polar low? Seems to be heading into the irish Sea?
