A dry and mainly clear night. It was a sunny start to the morning but in the last hour a sheet of Ac and thin St has spread down from the north west. The sun is intermittently visible through the cloud as a pale disc with a bit sized chunk taken from the right side.

Friday 20th March 2015

Variable cloud overnight with a ground frost developing through the early hours in clear spells. Bright so far this morning, sunny spells. Observation through the solar eclipse from electronic instruments only..(Readings differ slightly from official recording thermometers.) Mostly sunny throughout, after an initial quickly rising temperature from a low of 2.0c around dawn to 6.2c at 08:50GMT the temperature levelled out at around 6.3c and fell slightly to 6.1c at 10:00GMT, there after the temperature began to rise slowly under partly cloudy skies. Apart from feeling rather chilly and turning dusk like through the middle of the eclipse, no other changes were noted, the wind was very light throughout.

Maximum temperature to 18:00 GMT yesterday: 7.9°C

Minimum temperature overnight 1.5°C

24-hour maximum 7.9°C

Yesterday.

Mostly cloudy overnight, though a few clear spells for a couple of hours after midnight allowed for a ground frost to develop. Dawning overcast, mist. Little change so far this morning. Mostly cloudy, a few bright spells, feeling cool.

At eclipse time, two layers of cloud, mainly Sc had spread in. In spite of this the eclipse was partly visible at times as the moon moved across, from the left hand corner across to the right before the sun came out fully again. It did go quite dark although not as pronounced as the 1999 eclipse.

Even so the temperature halt is quite evident around 0930 on my weather trace

A mainly cloudy morning after a sunny start but the cloud was thin enough for brief glimpses of the eclipse at its maximum.

The cloud began to disperse by midday and there were sunny periods during the afternoon before thicker cloud brought one or two brief, light showers between 1600 and 1700.
