From heat waves to damaged crops to asthma in children, climate change is a major public health concern, argues a Michigan State University researcher in a new study.

Climate change is about more than melting ice caps and images of the Earth on fire, said Sean Valles, assistant professor in Lyman Briggs College and the Department of Philosophy, who believes bioethicists could help reframe current climate change discourse.

Does it say it courses Asthma? As i read it as effecting children with Asthma. As we don't want to be 'making stuff up' do we ?

I'll access the full article later via EBSCO, and see what it says. As you know I teach ethics (not specifically bioethics, but I do cover the ethics of healthcare from a business perspective) and I have done some bioethics stuff. MSU is a reputable university, but even scientists have to speculate about climate change.

We call them intervening variables - here's my classic - ice cream sales have risen in a deprived neighbourhood (original version is LA, but anywhere will do), violent crime goes up at the same time. What's going on? Is someone putting amphetamines in the ice cream? Are rival gangs gathering around the ice cream vans and shops? Are the ice cream vendors "agents provocateurs"?

No it's summer, and both ice cream sales and violent crime rise during summer. A=B with the intervention of C!

The asthma correlation could be due to new pollens, or just normal fluctuations in the weather during measurement - when you measure determines what you measure.
