If this pans out as tracked, don't see how that webcam will survive. Or the Tower blocks its on being anything but a shell.

Seriously hope no TV crew tries to get pictures as it happens as this is one storm where it will be to dangerous for anyone.

Crikey, the water's getting rougher already. I'm not really sure that I actually want to watch this, it just feels too intrusive...

I love watching these webcam streams. I can't wait until this evening when it makes landfall. I hope that everyone makes it out ok though I know many won't. I wish every bit of luck for those people.

I usually enjoy watching these events unfold too however that's quite often making landfall over a rich country in the USA. Even Cuba etc. are well drilled in storm protection.  What's concerning at the moment is the impact of this storm on a poorer country with poverty stricken residents without access to the latest shelters, storm proof buildings, medical care etc. It could be catastrophic for some in this instance.

ISS capture of Patricia at 17:20, you can just about make-out the eye which is above the left-lower solar-panel. And the Mexican coastline is located down to the bottom left.

Quite worryingly, some travel agencies have not evacuated people from the hotels bang in the path of the storm.

Sadly, William, everyone will not make it out alive...

Indeed Spikey; I fear that many hundreds will die, either to the wind or to mudslides! :sorry:

The most intense winds will be felt over a very small area, but what people don't seem to realise is that the still damaging winds, major storm surge and rains and associated flooding and mudslides will be felt over a much larger area. It's not just the core of Patricia that is dangerous, even though that is where the very worst of the conditions will be...

Indeed. A Facebook friend lives in Guadalajara, which is almost 200 miles inland, right in the path of this thing. Weather.com gives them a 91% chance of sustained 58mph, which is force 10. It's Mexico's 2nd biggest city. Winds like that will tear the poorer areas apart. From what I can tell from Google, the city's mostly flat, on a plateau, so mudslides shouldn't be a big threat there.

I have never seen a Hurricane depicted on the UK weather in the Eastern Pacific, normally they are in the Caribbean. This one looks remarkable in terms of wind strengths and ferocity. I just hope all in its path are sufficiently warned. The 6pm weather on BBC1 said its moving in at 10mph, so, in theory, that should give plenty of evacuation time if the systems are in place.

Good luck to all those in the path.

But as a weather phenomenon, this storm is looking unprecedented!!!!!

Hi everyone. Over on reddit.com/r/science we're currently putting together an impromptu discussion thread, possibly a Q&A session, with some meteorology researchers, professionals and some people at WXshift.com. They'll be able to answer most questions related to this Hurricane, the incredible number of storms this year and other related stuff. I'll post up a link when it's live, but it should be interesting!

Has this already stopped streaming or is it my PC?

That stream is terrifying to watch now let alone later. God I feel for those people wanting to sit it out. They must be completely out of their minds.

After what might have been a slight weakening, it looks (based on this animation) that it's intensifying just before landfall.

If I could put aside the humanitarian in me, this storm would be absolutely fascinating.  The way is seems to have delevoped out of nowhere is incredible. So i can I just say a word of thanks to Somerset Squall? Intrigued by its development I've come to read this thread from the start and the way it starts off with just SS's "usual" reports into what it's become with the number of other posters commentating tells a real story....one I hope that doesn't end with the tragedy we all fear.
