Our nearest river gauge is now reading 100mm above the previous record and it's still raining hard.

interestingly those on the lower reaches of the Irwell around Manchester and Salford are also close to record levels and with a lot more water to head downstream flooding in the two cities could start to be an issue shortly.

22.5mm of rain has fallen since midnight here, and I'm only about 90m above sea level, so Christ knows what the hills just outside of Manchester have had! Even I'm getting concerned now.

Both the Lancashire and Yorkshire Calders' now have severe flood warnings on them.

Some frightening pictures coming out of Todmorden and Hebden Bridge.

Dry again currently. Since yesterday afternoon, intermittent rain with often lengthly dry spells. 6.9 mm of precipitation today,. Must be that rain shadow again. Doubt we'll exceed the 12th's total of 23 mm at this rate.

Just seen the EA flood map, and looks like parts of the Manchester city center is at high risk of flooding also,  all the flooding upstream of the Irwell gets funneled into the city's narrow corridor,

Stopped raining now. But the rains still pouring in Cumbria though. It could easily receive 200mm again up there.

The Irwell has burst its banks from where I am in Bacup right down the valley towards Manchester.

the centre of Rochdale is flooded after the Roch overflowed and all the other tributaries are at bursting point

so there is a hell of a lot of water heading into Manchester and Salford.

Thankfully the rivers in Carlisle on seem to responding and looking at the upstream levels I think we could be ok. Stay safe all
