About 7 or 8 more rumbles now - getting louder. Huge cells to my south, west and a very black, angry looking cell to my northwest. Rumbles every 20 - 30 seconds. Still dry and sunny directly overhead while next doors garden has 15 pidgieons sitting on the grass, do they know something we don't? Going to go and eat and watch this develop...

HOLY CRAP! I've never seen anything like what I've just seen. Hail the size of Maltesers coming down at a biblical rate. Major flooding on the roads, it looks like snow out there! I like thunderstorms, but I'm well glad it's over.

That was the kind of weather I'd expect in the USA, not Kent!

Back home now and drove through some showers on the way back, some nice convection around but still yet to have downpours?!

I know the feeling. I really enjoyed watching last night but that constant flickering lightning reminded me of last July 1st in Yorkshire, and I was a bit worried about large hail and tornadoes. We didn't get either, but not so far away from here they did...

Just had a very thunderous storm here in Ashford, managed to capture a bolt of lightning whilst it was going over me

Torrential rain and a few rumbles of thunder here, no lightning seen yet though. Very big rain drops.

Constant thunder to my West and it's not moving too fast so expecting a deluge shortly.

Strangely lightning maps isn't showing every strike!

Lightning Maps only shows CGs, I think, but check with the experts on here...

Ok thanks. In the meantime it sounds like a freight train in the distance, it's really going mental with continuous thunder :shok:

I don't think you were really in the zone for anything today. I'm only just within it- had a few downpours, but the zone for the main action was illustrated in Nick F's map.

Hail roar?

Never heard of that but this is constant and definitely thunder! Also since my last post it's hardly got any nearer.

Constant rumbling every 20 - 30 seconds. Incredibly black to my northeast. Huge cells to my north and south too. Have yet to see any lightning but did have very brief rain a few mins ago although it was still bright overhead. I suspect it's slowly moving away.

Also that huge rainshower earlier was actually hail I've been told (curtains were closed at the time).

In some cases, updrafts cause hail and ice in the cloud to basically smash against each other causing a constant roar that could be perceived as thunder!

Heres an example

Same in north kent in swalecliffe.... Really heavy thunderstorms, largish hail lots of lightening.... Seems to have been back building on radar....growing from sheppy and moving and develping overhead....
