ECM and Ukmo both looking really good, snow followed by high pressure, mind you I'm not sure how we'll be affected by the high pressure start of next week. Cold in Britain but r we too far west

They weren't forecasting much precipitation for Ireland though, I suppose its still too early to know

From 18z it really is looking that north and west is best, winds seem to be strong which will hopefully keep precipation moving east enough for us this side of country

The first SNOW of 2017 is on the way later this week!

An early Yellow warning of Snow/Low Temperatures has been issued for Northern Ireland...

Colder air will move in across the country on Wednesday and showers will start to turn increasingly to sleet and snow, over the hills at first but as the cold air becomes more established across the country snow is likely at low levels. Strong winds are also expected during Wednesday and into Thursday which will push in frequent and heavy snow showers which could lead to some significant snow in places, along with blizzard like conditions with winds of up to 60mph possible. Note - Accumulations will vary across the country. #Tyrone

Daytime temperatures are unlikely to get much above freezing from Wednesday onwards and nighttime temperatures are expected to be well below freezing especially in snow covered areas.
We are also keeping a close eye an interesting little feature that could bring some rather significant snowfall to some places during Saturday, however this could be a tricky one to forecast as conditions for snow may be marginal, but it is worth a watch.
The public should be aware of possible hazardous conditions later this week. With Ice and lying snow possible this may cause some disruption to travel. #TyroneLife

With regards to snow and where it will fall more widely shouldn't even be looked at until Tuesday/Wednesday. I am in a prime location and could completely missed out. Just have to wait and see what happens.

Yes no point worrying about how much snow yet. I always think when it comes to things like this, get the cold in first then worry about the snow, which will often be a nowcast anyway. Maybe by Tues see what the shortt range models like the euro4 are showing with regards to snowfall.

100% Sundog. Unstable flow on the way so definitely agree that it will be a now cast event but could be very localised depending on shower distibution and also depending on showers merging.

It has always been projected to be a 2 or 3 day cold snowy spell for us in the North West and that is what we are getting.

The MOD thread can continue their howling and screaming about another failed Easterly all they like.

If we are lucky the collapsing high will sit over us with cold and frost.

Unfortunately even the snow during that 2-3 day window now looks very marginal for most of us

Please explain dew points, temp, 850s, Relative Humidity, Wet bulb and dam line are good for 3 days atleast..

Links below are good for checking if snow will fall first link is Relative Humidity & temp percentage based calculation for snow and second you can check all other factors that are needed for snow

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Turning much colder during Wednesday and Thursday. Very windy with frequent wintry showers, significant snowfall in places especially from later Wednesday, and drifting over higher ground.

Anyone saying we wont get some decent snow should read this. How often do we see significant snowfall mentioned in a forecast?

Clearly if you live near the coast it is always going to be marginal and some will see loads and some not so much.

Don't want to sound like a smart ass, but if you read about 7/8 posts above, you'll get your answer.
