Oh dear this is turning into an exceptionally dull October here so far, can't remember the last day with a decent number of hours of sunshine. Last week was a cloud fest, barely a break. This week promises equally cloudy dull leaden skies, and the longer term outlook suggests more atlantic cloudy muck.. could we be looking at one of the dullest Octobers on record locally in some parts.

I don't keep a record of sunshine levels, but it would be good if someone does, or who has access to such stats can indicate how we are doing so far this month.

At this rate we will need to start taking sunshine injections - it feels like the depths of winter.

I made a comment in the CET thread about how absent chilly nights have been this month, and in the forecast for the next week or so two. Ties in nicely with the gloom fest you mention, just not getting any radiation nights at all. The only "sunny" day we had recently was spoiled by the bloody smoke and dust cloud!

Ex-Ophelia really has been the only notable event this month, otherwise the weather has been rather benign and with winds from a gnerally mild direction it has been fairly cloudy with very mild nights at times. September was certainly the more inteesting month. Well beyond now we have a low which will cross the UK this weekend but then it is probably 50/50 on weather we see a more changeable pattern or whether heights over Europe gain the upper hand again.

Some sunshine here this week on Monday and Tuesday, last week was a bit dull after a first week in October with quite a lot of sunshine.

But overall the past 2 weeks has been rather dull.

Certainly been dull here too with 47 hours of sunshine so far this month. The first week produced some sunny days and have had a few with 1-3 hours but lots of non descript days. Very gloomy yesterday and today. Quite different to last year's sunny October!

Little sunshine here in the south east, first week not to bad and a couple of days ago when we had that warm spell but generally pretty cloudy and last couple of days has been miserable. Too much Tm air about I'm afraid which has led to largely cloudy nights with only a minima of 8.0 here.

It's going to be a long miserable sunless winter if this pattern continues.

We've had 59 hours so far this month. Its marginally below average, but 2005 managed just 69hrs all month. 2001, 2005 and 2006 were also duller than average, so it seems dull weather goes with a warm October in a lot of cases here at least.

Thanks for the replies, will be interesting to see the final stats for the month. It so far has felt like a winter month in terms of brightness levels.
