Wednesday evening into Thursday Storm

At the moment looking very nasty. Exact track yet unknown going to be interesting if it's gets a name or not since it's overnight. It should do but then the naming at times does seem very inconsistent.

Sods law that the current track is going to blow the roof off my house.

It needs a 150 mile southerly track to dump a nice blizzard my way but never mind. 

Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for.

As it currently stands this storm will be blowing through the last 1/4 section of the SPINE Race which follows the length of the Pennine Way, there's just over 100 runners still remaining making their way past Pen-Y-Ghent. The runners are kitted up with all the safety gear but it's the environmental dangers from this storm which brings up the most concern especially out across open-moorland and within the Northumbria Forest section.

Latest Hires GOES image shows the developing low off the NE coast of the States

Well latest forecasts have it further south and less developed however the English channel getting some very strong winds. Still going to windy here but over a much shorter time period.

Further downgrades overnight still going to be a windy night should still hit 60 mph but 70 or higher have now gone.

Comparing GFS latest run with current surface pressure plot the low is 4mb lower than predicted at this point. MetO will be watching this closely especially with a 200mph Jet-stream above.

The consistent wind is as high as I've had in the East Midlands for years, the gusts are quite spectacular! ! Luckily I moved from somewhere very exposed to a sheltered mooring just a couple of days ago.

Wittering observation station recording gusts in excess of 75mph. Not had wind like this in a long time. Expecting some trees down and possible structural damage in places.

A gust of 72mph at London city Airport overnight.

That one of many gusts over England between 70mph and 80mph,alot of them inland sites.

Think the 'downgrading ' of this system by many models over recent days may have gone too far.

For me,it needed it's own name given wind speeds reported and snow disruption.

I think Jo said they had merged it with Fionn.However if that did happen there was no 'fanfare'for  last night's system as we  have seen with other named storms.

Looking at the national rail news feeds, looks like every train line in the south East has trees down.

The low bombed that tiny bit earlier, winds to me seem to be 10mph up on what was forecast.

East Anglia must be getting a hammering right now.

Ironically fairly calm down here!!

Woke up to a terrific gust definitely late 50s. The wind roared for over 2 hours before moderating slightly.  Sustained winds of 35mph + gusts 65mph this far inland. Worst storm in a while. Can only think it didn't get an amber and therefore a name because it hit overnight

It seems that the naming of #StormFionn was so awkward (no low), that the Met Office didn't name last night's low. (maybe in a huff lol). There was still a lot of uncertainty about the low even yesterday, whether the winds would pep up as it cleared over eastern England. The Netweather SR model did very well with the snow and wind fields for this. Perhaps it will just be thought of as Fionn

Winds were higher than expected last night. EC didn't pick it up until the 00z run came out, and the UKV only gradually ramped it up across the East Midlands and East Anglia on overnight runs.
