Yeah, but we’ve had late October warm spells before, which have been followed by long chilly winters which last until mid or late March and even April ends up being chilly. 1995 was a prime example.

September 2017 was cooler than average in London, with slightly above average rainfall and below average sunshine.

October was warm, very dry and very cloudy.

On average our first 20c is in mid April and our last is mid October.

Disastrous outlook for Central Europe. Dry winter followed by dry spring. Daily averages already at summer levels on some days and dry as hell. Half the country heading to extreme drought and it's only April. Fun! :fool:

People need to be less dramatic about this warm spell, the first one for many months I might add. Let’s just enjoy it!

Beats weeks of dull cloudy cool weather, which is frankly quite depressing.

The met office and some maps are showing another warmish spell  in  10 days or so time. I would settle for warm bursts of weather now and then. I would even settle for a cold May if we end up with a warmer than average June:)

It's still disappointingly cloudy here - I think we'll have to wait until tomorrow for clear skies as it doesn't look like they'll be arriving today.

Just been for a run. Beautiful. This would do nicely for the next 6 months.

We seem to be able to get close to or beat records at a canter at the moment. Today's maximum of 23.2C is the 2nd warmest here in 38 years and the minimum of 12.6C was the 3rd warmest in the same period.

Its even more remarkable when you consider we're only a mid-month and have just come out of a long spell of below average temperatures.

There's a moderate chance of the record of 24.0C set in 2011 going tomorrow too, just two days into the warm spell.

There's a bit of a weird historical anomaly for temperature records at this time of year. With the exception of the 18th, 19th, and 22nd, all dates from the 16th* April to the 25th April have recorded 27C or higher (the 22nd has reached 26.9C), but all dates from the 26th to the 30th have failed to do so. In fact, only the 30th has scraped 26C.

Probably a coincidence, but I find this interesting because the last two Aprils featured cold snaps in the final few days, while this April has a hot spell centred nicely in that 16th-25th period.

Incidentally, the high-temperature records pick up again in May, where all daily records are higher than 27C.

* The record for the 16th is 29.4C!

Indeed, it's a strange anomaly, even more so when you consider that to find the next day to beat that 16th April record of 29.4C you have to go all the way to 16th May!

My post above has been amended as we've now hit 23.2C, making it the second warmest and only 0.8C from the record. Quite a warm day, being its 11.2C above average for this point in the month!

Very tempted to move to an alpine climate when you get today’s weather most of spring and summer. What a nuisance that jet stream is!
