I feel for the professionals having to present crap on a mix of models we all see. Now let’s look at the Met Office. They have been steadfast in their approach for well over a month now thanks to GLOSEA and MOGREPS. The Met Office is by far the superior weather service, the BBC, with their cheap renewal, a joke!

I wonder what the “proper” bbc forecasters of the past think when they watch some of the p**s poor presenters that pass for forecasters these days?

Toe curling I should imagine.

Six clusters on the eps out to day 8 says that this could evolve in quite a few ways. That said, they are all frigid

What do you mean by evolve BA? Into what and where?

I've lost most of my model/forecasting knowledge from a few years of not being in practice.

I imagine they feel like us, ashamed. It’s not their fault, they are the professionals, but the BBC, like usual, want the cheap option. They are presenting against their own views at times I imagine.

For those of you who remember him, I think we need Rob McElwee back this week for a forecast. I miss him, and all cold rampers will too!

Rob was a legend who clearly loved cold weather and snow. Couldn’t keep him off the bbc forecasts in November/December 2010!

Im frightened. I have this feeling of impending doom that maidstone east sussex and north kent get the lions share and we in ashford get a dusting ...

For those lucky people with snow... if it is of powder type ... i may be about to embaress myself... but if you add some water to.it like sand woukd it make it more sticky?

I was thinking more on the lines of hairdressers water mister spray to hold the kids snowman together!?

On the plus side, powder snow got to be great for sledging though, right? If it's deep enough? Kids wont get so wet as it don't stick to them?

Why should the BBC pay the Met office anyway?

I thought both were funded by the British tax payer to provide a service for the public?

Yes, they have a choice, but the Met Office is far superior. I guess they went for the cheaper option.

No I mean why don't the met office provide information for free to the BBC, as they both work for us?

I don't pay my Mrs to cook dinner, oh hold on ?

well... in the event we get the full snow potential, i cant wait to go out for a drive in the snow. just in case, i've got 2× 2 tonne strops, a tow-rope, 2× 3 tonne hi-lift jacks which can be used for winching, a shovel and a bag of rock salt. i should be ok....

I've got lots of lego if anyone needs it...

but I'm keeping the salt I've stashed <snowmageddon apocalypse lucky bloke> emoticon

I think they had a contract with the BBC, but the BBC took the cheap option. We don’t know the financials, but the BBC have made a silly mistake

What a truly fabulous photo! ????

Indeed, parts of central and east Kent were pretty well snowed in in 87, I have seen pretty big snow drifts around the downs myself sort of Canterbury/Ashford way about 10 years ago. I suspects that some places will see large amounts of drifting snow next week that will hang around for quite some time, even when the thaw sets in, because everything will end up just freezing and turning icy.:cold:

So things still to get;

Highly concentrated screenwash, going to need it to resist the cold and not freeze over.

A shovel - To dig myself out of the drive

A ruler - To measure my snow, maybe a metre ruler (Just in case 30cm isn't enough:D )

1,2,3 done

Salt done

tequila?

Let's hope the GFS 18z was just a bit wonky and that low isn't dragged right up into the country in the next few runs.

2 things about the GFS

Always blows up low pressure systems

Always too progressive (especially against a cold block)
