Just read this on the BBC - 18.7c in Scotland on the 28th.

3rd month of the year to record a new max record.

Provisional data suggests temperatures hit 18.7C at Achfary in the Scottish Highlands on 28 December.

Not much sign of either 'encroachment' or UHI-effect, up there, RD...Low-flying RAF training aircraft, perhaps?:oldgrin:

Nope.

Just goes to show that even when the weather is mundane, we can still see something unusual and a little out of the blue.

Bizarre! We normally nick the high temperatures in the south while northerners wonder what the fuss is all about! Roles definitely reversed today, rather chilly as I strolled along southsea common this lunchtime! 

Congrats to the Highlands!
