New government advice includes;

If you have a cough or high temperature, however mild, stay at home and do not leave your house for 7 days from when your symptoms started

Boris: advising against over 70s with health conditions from going on cruises

This seems really random. Why not just say to avoid public gatherings if possible.

Oh please..........would you rather he be smiling and joking?

I didn't mention his behaviour,  I mentioned how he looks, which is sweaty and wet eyed.

Boris: We are NOT closing schools. That could cause 'more harm than good' at this stage.

There will be 'severe disruption for many months'.

People can relate to the comment as many over 70’s go on cruises.  What would you be using as an example?

Anyone have demographics on smoking in Italy?

Found it! Proportion of the population that smoke 28.30% 19.70% male/female respectively. Almost 10% difference which is a mighty fine coincidence.

So keep washing our hands and don't go on cruises...but still let flights in from Spain and Italy. Cool.

This is going to take off in the next 2 weeks isn't it, I can't see any other result now.

Good to see statistics coming out from this meeting though!

20 in ICU.

CSO: UK 4 weeks or so behind Italy and some other European countries

More than 20 patients on intensive care units could be 5,000 to 10,000 already infected

Hardly.  There are so many other things he could've mentioned for that age group. To point out cruises is bizarre.

As I said, it would be much more helpful to suggest avoiding unnecessary outings in general until the peak has passed.

I think 4 weeks is very optimistic, as we have seen in Spain once it takes off, we will race up those cases at a rapid rate and catch up with Italy's current position quickly.

590 confirmed cases, 20 ICU = 3.3%.

That is reassuring in comparison to figures that have been seen in Italy and China.

Assumption of buttressing of case figures to be 10 to 20 fold.  Really need to see Iceland's nationwide testing results to see how that stands up.

Well we are now approaching peak Wuhan levels in Italy now, such a disaster and sounds like the UK government is consigned to reaching that state as well...

I don't want to see the bloke on TV again.

Lets stop over 70s going on cruises.

Brilliant.

So the scientific adviser hinting that school/uni/event closures will happen eventually but not right now, more towards the peak of the outbreak.

If we do have 5,000 to 10,000 cases already that points to fact it is indeed very mild for the vast majority.
