What's that got to do with when the Autumn thread starts? Does it bother you that much that you've actually been sad enough to go and check when each thread has been started?

Edit: maybe we should also question why the Summer thread was started a whole '2 months' before Summer!

Autumn thread in july..your one month late when it started..haha..well whenever it does start lets hope it dont drag right through winter like last year..as others have said seeing leaves on the trees changing colour already is strange..august yes but july is a bit early in my book..i was a bit surprised as well to see the conkers on the trees at the start of july but thats probably just me not going out so much as i used to do..as far as autumn is concerned can we miss it and jump straight to winter..whatever thats supposed to be nowdays!!

Conkers formed in May as soon as the blossom dropped off

Estimation for autumn 2020

September to start off cool and unsettled before a phenomenal heatwave midmonth. Temperature records broken in a few areas, before a massive thundery breakdown with hail and flooding in some areas before a settled but cooler last week. Overall a very wet but warm month with near average sunshine.

October to begin with a northerly blast bringing some unusually cool weather to most areas except the far south with some snow in the mountains and severe frost in Scotland before a much milder spell midmonth with some heavy rain in a few areas and to finish with some mild, sunny days. A unremarkable month for statistics.

November will be a predominantly stormy, mild month with well above average rainfall in all areas and little frost until the last week with a very big northerly blast bringing heavy, disruptive snow and ice.

Wow I like autumn and the decline of summer more than anyone but we're a good 4 weeks away from the first autumn hints yet.

I'm not sure why this keeps being brought up. The thread for the next season is typically opened in the second or third week of the current season.

The Summer 2020 thread was opened on 1st April but locked until the 14th April so exactly the same time before the season started.

I'll cut to the chase. Coldest winter since 2013 and probably on a par with 09/10.

I think a 2008/9 or 09/2010 winter is possible. Would love another month like December 2010, but will also take another cold spell like Feb 2018.

that post will get 'likes' even though it's pure guess, this won't though, I reckon a very mild winter, virtually snowless away from north/high ground, miles wetter than average, low pressure and Atlantic to rule! some may say a guess, but same difference as quoted one

Not after likes mate. Couldn't care less about them. It's what I'm expecting for this coming winter based on what we know so far.

Too early for me to start thinking about Autumn, usually happens as we enter mid August. Until then I remain in a high summer state.

I know this isn't really the thread for it, but what are your thoughts about the struggling E-QBO?

Not too sure it'll be a massive factor to be honest with you, I can't see any organisation within the QBO at all right now. No saying whether it'll go W'ly or E'ly but either way it looks like it'll be a weak affair flushing down in time for winter- which could prove to be more beneficial than anything else.

Whilst out with the dog I saw my first Lord’s ‘n Ladies nestled amongst the undergrowth and hedgerows... Big red juicy berries on it as well! Always a good harbinger of autumn these. :oldgood:

I'd like a calm settled September and early October (if only that I'm due to go to Snowdonia on a walking holiday mid October) but after that, it can go stormy as youd like. Weve had wet October last year but no real storms which strip leaves early and we must be due one!

I would take a repeat of Autumn 2019 - glorious stuff up here during October and November but was severely lacking in the gales/severe gales department. (One of the quietest October/November periods I can ever remember)

Both months came in below average, sunshine duration above average and very dry also.

November was basically a Winter month!

October delivered some wintry showers in the final week of the month - lovely cloudscapes during my local October hill walks.

November was notable for the number of air frosts here at sea level - numerous ground frosts also with a couple of ice day’s thrown in.

I enjoyed Autumn 2019 also, not much frost or snow here but it felt cool and was a good prelude to winter (or would have been had we had a decent one).

Hope to never see the likes of Nov 2019 ever again. Damp type cold with Dublin being in the firing line for a lot of slow moving weather fronts and the dullest Nov since 1983. Was duller and wetter than Nov 2018 somehow. Only slightest bit of interest was the snow event that hit the peaks on 13th/14th which was decent for so early in the season.

Enjoyed October for the most part whilst September despite a superb middle third was mediocre.

I'd like an autumn akin to 1919, 2010 or 2016.

Yes, autumn 2019 was cold even in London, it’s just a shame the mild weather took over as we entered December.

A mild autumn, followed by a cold winter would be ideal for this year. At the very least, we will see some cold sunny settled conditions at some stage again.

Can we have a hot September first though, just to offset the cool and extreme cloudiness of June-August?

Yes, a 2010 or 2016 autumn would be great. Both were warm at the start, but became very cold later.
