Updated met office warning from 7am tomorrow to 2pm Friday

Heavy snow has the potential to cause disruption on Thursday and Friday.

Reason for update

The warning area has been trimmed away from parts of central and northeast Scotland and moved from high to medium impacts.

An area of low pressure will move across the UK on Thursday and Friday with snow developing across Wales and central England early on Thursday morning. This is expected to move slowly north during the day, becoming slow-moving across north Wales, northern England, Northern Ireland and southern Scotland during the afternoon and evening before slowly clearing southeast on Friday.

Snow will likely turn to sleet or rain at times at lower elevations, especially in the south of the warning area, as well as near eastern coasts. At low levels including major cities such as Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle accumulations are expected to be limited with a small chance of 2-5 cm falling. However, significant snow accumulations are possible over hills of northern England (including populated areas of South and West Yorkshire), Northern Ireland and southern Scotland.

Here, 10-15 cm is expected quite widely above 100 metres, with a chance that 25-40 cm could fall in some places . Additionally, there is potential for strong winds, which may lead to blizzard conditions and drifting of lying snow. Ice is likely to develop widely on Friday night as this system clears away.

Those first 2 photos are what's left from the low that's giving the south the Snow today, That moves east and the next low is the one that's supposed to give us the snow, you can see it over Ireland on those 2 graphics

I think what we can all agree on is the forecasts and models have been a complete shambles

Met yesterday had the low going into the heart of Scotland

The current system across central areas now, is that further north than what was modelled?

Yeah I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a pattern like this

The ECM has precipitation around us with -7 -8 uppers. I really can’t see much for lower levels to be honest( love to be wrong)unfortunately wind off the sea looks to strong but interesting all the same

Cleveland hills could do well

Needs to wait a few hours if it doesn’t mind for the air temp to drop away again

That’s normally the case to be fair in this set up I think lower levels will definitely see snow but can’t see it sticking

To me it looks like the current system is further north than modelled. And also looking on sat24 and the high cloud is starting to kill off the north sea convection to the southern parts of the region.

If the planet did indeed have had a "day after tomorrow moment" teesside would still miss the snow, we'd all be sunbathing on the beach wondering what all the fuss is about 😎

Yeah we are having rotten luck. It was obvious there would be convection today in the North Sea hopefully they have the warning to far north and this high cloud clears
