There's a huge thaw going on now, I'll be very surprised if there's much left by tonight, that's here anyway

Nice to see many in the region getting a covering of snow, had just over a couple of inches here and was quite heavy just after midnight.

Could be a few convective showers this afternoon, and more snow chances over the next week.

My Sons school advised everybody that if anybody was caught throwing snowballs they could face suspension, So everybody did it so the school couldn't do anything 👏👏👏👏👏, World's gone mad

Updated snow and ice warning for tonight

18:00 Today 06:00 Tomorrow

Further snowfall has the potential to cause disruption Saturday evening into Sunday.

What to expect

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

Reason for update

Snow accumulations have decreased slightly with fewer impacts expected. Parts of northwest England have been removed from the warning where accumulating snow is no longer expected. The start time has also been delayed until early evening.

A band of rain, sleet and snow is expected to move northeastwards on Saturday evening, persisting for part of Saturday night then clearing the north of the warning area on Sunday morning.

The bulk of the snow accumulations likely to be confined to elevations above 200 m, with 1-3 cm possible, whilst 5-10 cm fresh snow is possible above 400 m. Snow is likely to turn to rain before it clears, bringing the onset of thaw, although, during this transition, a brief spell of freezing rain is possible giving icy conditions, mainly over higher ground.

Thaw is less likely across the northern half of Scotland, with lying snow remaining through Sunday.

It doesn't look like the snow will cause any issues tonight to lower levels with mild air rapidly coming in behind it

The radar clearly showing the 850s warming up quite quickly as the warm front moves East. Good luck to those in the favoured spots

These fronts coming in from West nearly always fizzle out here. Actually looking forward to some warmth now. Missed my snowman building opportunity yesterday due to being at work and was pretty much all gone when I got home at 1pm. That sun felt rather rather nice earlier too.

This winter I've had 25 degrees in January  thanks to canary Isles. Snow and rain. Next month more sun in Tenerife. Bring it on. At the other half's tonight in Washington so don't expect much. Good luck too those  higher up
